  • The Japhethites

    And these are the generations of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; and to them were sons born after the flood.
  • This is the account of the families of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the three sons of Noah. Many children were born to them after the great flood.
    Descendants of Japheth

  • The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
  • The descendants of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
  • And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
  • The descendants of Gomer were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
  • And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
  • The descendants of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.a
  • From these came the distribution of the isles of the nations, according to their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
  • Their descendants became the seafaring peoples that spread out to various lands, each identified by its own language, clan, and national identity.
    Descendants of Ham

  • The Hamites

    And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.
  • The descendants of Ham were Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
  • And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
  • The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
  • And Cush begot Nimrod: he began to be mighty on the earth.
  • Cush was also the ancestor of Nimrod, who was the first heroic warrior on earth.
  • He was a mighty hunter before Jehovah; therefore it is said, As Nimrod, the mighty hunter before Jehovah!
  • Since he was the greatest hunter in the world,b his name became proverbial. People would say, “This man is like Nimrod, the greatest hunter in the world.”
  • And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
  • He built his kingdom in the land of Babylonia,c with the cities of Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh.
  • From that land went out Asshur, and built Nineveh, and Rehoboth-Ir, and Calah,
  • From there he expanded his territory to Assyria,d building the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah,
  • and Resen, between Nineveh and Calah: this is the great city.
  • and Resen (the great city located between Nineveh and Calah).
  • -- And Mizraim begot the Ludim, and the Anamim, and the Lehabim, and the Naphtuhim,
  • Mizraim was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,
  • and the Pathrusim, and the Casluhim, out of whom came the Philistines, and the Caphtorim.
  • Pathrusites, Casluhites, and the Caphtorites, from whom the Philistines came.e
  • -- And Canaan begot Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth,
  • Canaan’s oldest son was Sidon, the ancestor of the Sidonians. Canaan was also the ancestor of the Hittites,f
  • and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,
  • Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,
  • and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,
  • Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,
  • and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. And afterwards the families of the Canaanites spread themselves abroad.
  • Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. The Canaanite clans eventually spread out,
  • And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon, as one goes to Gerar, up to Gazah; as one goes to Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, up to Lesha.
  • and the territory of Canaan extended from Sidon in the north to Gerar and Gaza in the south, and east as far as Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, near Lasha.
  • These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations.
  • These were the descendants of Ham, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity.
    Descendants of Shem

  • The Semites

    And to Shem -- to him also were [sons] born; he is the father of all the sons of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder.
  • Sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth.g Shem was the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.
  • The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
  • The descendants of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
  • And the sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
  • The descendants of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
  • -- And Arphaxad begot Shelah; and Shelah begot Eber.
  • Arphaxad was the father of Shelah,h and Shelah was the father of Eber.
  • And to Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.
  • Eber had two sons. The first was named Peleg (which means “division”), for during his lifetime the people of the world were divided into different language groups. His brother’s name was Joktan.
  • And Joktan begot Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
  • Joktan was the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
  • and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
  • Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
  • and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
  • Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
  • and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were sons of Joktan.
  • Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were descendants of Joktan.
  • And their dwelling was from Mesha, as one goes to Sephar, the eastern mountain.
  • The territory they occupied extended from Mesha all the way to Sephar in the eastern mountains.
  • These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.
  • These were the descendants of Shem, identified by clan, language, territory, and national identity.
  • These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations. And from these came the distribution of the nations on the earth after the flood.

  • Conclusion

    These are the clans that descended from Noah’s sons, arranged by nation according to their lines of descent. All the nations of the earth descended from these clans after the great flood.
