God's Covenant with Abram

After these things the word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, thy exceeding great reward.

По цих-о подіях було слово Господнє Аврамові в видінні таке: „Не бійся, Авраме, — Я тобі щит, нагорода твоя вельми велика“.

2

And Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me? seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.

А Аврам відізвався: „Господи, Господи, — що́ даси Ти мені, коли я бездітний ходжу́, а керівник мого господарства — він Елі-Езеріз Дамаску“.

And Abram said, Lo, to me thou hast given no seed, and behold, a son of my house will be mine heir.

3

І сказав Аврам: „Отож, Ти не дав нащадка мені, і ото мій керівник — спадкоє́мець мені“.

4

And behold, the word of Jehovah [came] to him, saying, This shall not be thine heir, but he that will come forth out of thy body shall be thine heir.

4

І ось слово Господнє до нього таке: „Він не бу́де спадкоє́мець тобі, але той, хто вийде з твойого нутра,— він буде спадкоє́мець тобі“.

5

And he led him out, and said, Look now toward the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said to him, So shall thy seed be!

І Господь його вивів надвір та й сказав: „Подивися на небо, та зорі злічи, коли тільки потрапиш ти їх полічити“. І до нього прорік: „Таким буде потомство твоє!“

And he believed Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him [as] righteousness.

6

І ввірував Аврам Господе́ві, а Він залічив йому те в праведність.

7

And he said to him, I am Jehovah who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to possess it.

7

І промовив до нього: „Я Господь, що вивів тебе з Уру халдейського, щоб дати тобі землю оцю, щоб став ти спадкоє́мець її“.

8

God Confirms His Promise

And he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall possess it?

І промовив Аврам: „Господи, Господи, — з чого я довідаюся, що буду спадкоє́мець її?“

9

And he said to him, Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.

9

Він же промовив до нього: „Візьми трилітнє теля, і трилітню козу, і трилітнього барана, і горлицю, і пташеня голубине“.

10

And he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the half of each opposite its fellow; but the birds he did not divide.

10

І взяв він для Нього все те, і розсік його пополовині, і дав кожну частину його відповідно до другої, але птаства не розсік.

11

And the birds of prey came down on the carcases; and Abram scared them away.

І зліталося хиже птаство на трупи, та Аврам відганяв його.

12

And as the sun was just going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, a horror, a great darkness, fell upon him.

Коли ж сонце схилялось на захід, то спав сон на Аврама. І ось спадає на нього жах темний, великий.

13

And he said to Abram, Know assuredly that thy seed will be a sojourner in a land [that is] not theirs, and they shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.

13

І промовив Господь до Аврама: „Добре знай, що потомство твоє буде прихо́дьком в землі не своїй. І будуть служити вони, і будуть їх мучити чотири сотні літ.

14

But also that nation which they shall serve I will judge; and afterwards they shall come out with great property.

14

Але наро́д, якому служити вони будуть, Я засуджу́; та вони потім вийдуть з великим маєтком.

15

And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

15

А ти до своєї рідні при́йдеш у мирі, у старості добрій похований будеш.

16

And [in the] fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.

16

А покоління четверте повернеться сюди, бо досі не повний ще гріх амореянина“.

17

And it came to pass when the sun had gone down, and it was dark, that behold, there was a smoking furnace, and a flame of fire which passed between those pieces.

17

І сталось, коли зайшло сонце й була те́мрява, то ось появилась мов димуюча піч, та смолоскип огняни́й перейшов поміж тими кусками жертви.

18

On the same day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates;

І того дня склав Господь заповіта з Аврамом, говорячи: „Насінню твоєму Я дав оцю землю від річки Єгипту аж до річки великої, до річки Ефрата:

19

the Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

19

хенеянина, і кенізеянина, і кадмонеянина,

20

and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaim,

20

і хіттеянина, і періззеянина, і рефаеянина,

21

and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

21

і амореянина, і ханаанеянина, і ґірґашеянина, і евусеянина“.
