God's Covenant with Abram
After these things the word of Jehovah came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram; I am thy shield, thy exceeding great reward.

And Abram said, Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me? seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus.
Но Аврам сказал: "Господи Боже, Ты ничего не можешь дать мне такого, что сделало бы меня счастливым, ибо нет у меня сына, и потому после моей смерти мой раб Елиезер из Дамаска получит всё, чем я владею".
And Abram said, Lo, to me thou hast given no seed, and behold, a son of my house will be mine heir.
"Ты не дал мне сына, — сказал Аврам, — и потому рождённый в моём доме раб станет моим наследником".
And behold, the word of Jehovah [came] to him, saying, This shall not be thine heir, but he that will come forth out of thy body shall be thine heir.
Тогда Господь Бог обратился к Авраму и сказал: "Раб этот не получит всё, чем ты владеешь. У тебя родится сын, он и будет твоим наследником".
And he led him out, and said, Look now toward the heavens, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said to him, So shall thy seed be!
Затем Бог вывел Аврама из шатра и сказал: "Посмотри на небо, видишь, сколько там звёзд, такое множество, что их не счесть. Вот столько и у тебя будет потомков".
And he believed Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him [as] righteousness.
Аврам поверил Господу, и Господь решил, что вера Аврама равноценна праведной жизни и добродетельным поступкам.
And he said to him, I am Jehovah who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to possess it.
Бог сказал Авраму: "Я — Господь, Который вывел тебя из Ура Вавилонского, и Я сделал это для того, чтобы отдать тебе эту землю. Ты будешь ею владеть".
God Confirms His Promise
And he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall possess it?
And he said, Lord Jehovah, how shall I know that I shall possess it?
Но Аврам ответил: "Владыка Господи! Как я могу быть уверен, что получу эту землю?"
And he said to him, Take me a heifer of three years old, and a she-goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young pigeon.
Бог сказал Авраму: "Принеси Мне трехлетнюю тёлку, трехлетнюю козу и трехлетнего барана, принеси также горлицу и голубка".
And he took all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid the half of each opposite its fellow; but the birds he did not divide.
Аврам принёс всё это Богу, заколол всех животных, рассёк каждое на две части и положил одну половину напротив другой. Птиц же он не рассёк на две части.
And the birds of prey came down on the carcases; and Abram scared them away.
Немного погодя на трупы налетели хищные птицы, но Аврам отогнал их.
And as the sun was just going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, a horror, a great darkness, fell upon him.
К концу дня, когда стало садиться солнце, Аврама стало клонить ко сну, и он уснул. Во сне его объяла ужасающая тьма,
And he said to Abram, Know assuredly that thy seed will be a sojourner in a land [that is] not theirs, and they shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years.
и Господь сказал ему: "Знай, что твои потомки будут пришельцами в чужой стране, и поработят их жители той страны, и будут угнетать их 400 лет.
But also that nation which they shall serve I will judge; and afterwards they shall come out with great property.
Но потом Я накажу народ, поработивший их, твой же народ покинет ту землю и унесет с собой много всякого добра.
And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
А ты отойдёшь к отцам твоим в мире и будешь похоронен в глубокой старости.
And [in the] fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
Пройдёт четыре поколения, и твой народ вернётся обратно на эту землю, и тогда они победят аморреев, ибо Я через твой народ накажу живущих здесь аморреев. Всё это произойдёт в будущем, ибо мера беззаконий аморреев ещё не исполнилась".
And it came to pass when the sun had gone down, and it was dark, that behold, there was a smoking furnace, and a flame of fire which passed between those pieces.
После захода солнца наступила кромешная тьма. Мёртвые животные всё ещё лежали на земле, рассечённые на две части. И тут между рассечёнными частями животных прошёл столб дыма и огня.
On the same day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates;
В тот день Господь дал обещание Авраму и заключил с ним соглашение, сказав: "Я отдам твоим потомкам эту землю, Я отдам им землю от реки Египетской до великой реки Евфрата,
