Abraham's Celestial Visitors

And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him. And when he saw [them], he ran to meet them from the tent-door, and bowed himself to the earth,
Авраам взглянул и увидел, что перед ним стоят трое мужчин. Увидев их, Авраам выбежал им навстречу из своего шатра и низко поклонился.
and said, Lord, if now I have found favour in thine eyes, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant.
"Владыки, — сказал он. — Прошу вас, побудьте немного со мной, слугой вашим.
Let now a little water be fetched, that ye may wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
Я принесу воды омыть вам ноги, и вы отдохнёте под деревьями.
And I will fetch a morsel of bread; and refresh yourselves; after that ye shall pass on; for therefore have ye passed on towards your servant. And they said, So do as thou hast said.
Я принесу вам еды, и вы подкрепитесь, сколько хотите, а потом продолжите свой путь". Трое мужчин сказали: "Хорошо, мы сделаем, как ты говоришь".
And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, Knead quickly three seahs of wheaten flour, and make cakes.
Авраам поспешил обратно в шатёр и сказал Сарре: "Замеси поскорее муки на три каравая хлеба".
And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf tender and good, and gave [it] to the attendant; and he hasted to dress it.
Потом Авраам побежал туда, где был его скот, выбрал самого лучшего телёнка, дал его слуге и велел тому поскорее заколоть телёнка и приготовить еду.
And he took thick and sweet milk, and the calf that he had dressed, and set [it] before them; and he stood before them under the tree, and they ate.
Авраам принёс мясо, молоко и сыр, поставил всё это перед тремя мужчинами, а сам остался стоять перед ними, пока они сидели под деревом и ели.
Sarah Laughs at the Promise
And they said to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
And they said to him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
Они спросили Авраама: "Где твоя жена Сарра?" "Она там, в шатре", — ответил Авраам.
And he said, I will certainly return to thee at [this] time of the year, and behold, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah was listening at the tent-door, which was behind him.
"Я вернусь обратно весной, — сказал тогда Господь. — В это время у твоей жены Сарры будет сын". Сарра прислушивалась к разговору, стоя с другой стороны входа в шатёр, и всё слышала.
Now Abraham and Sarah were old [and] advanced in age: it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Авраам и Сарра были оба очень стары, и для Сарры миновало время, когда женщины могут иметь детей,
And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am become old, shall I have pleasure, and my lord old?
поэтому она не поверила тому, что услышала, и, смеясь, сказала про себя: "Я стара и муж мой стар, я слишком стара, чтобы иметь ребёнка".
And Jehovah said to Abraham, Why is this, that Sarah laughs, saying, Shall I indeed bear, when I am become old?
Тогда Господь сказал Аврааму: "Сарра смеялась и сказала, что слишком стара, чтобы иметь ребёнка.
Is [any] matter too wonderful for Jehovah? At the time appointed I will return to thee, at [this] time of the year, and Sarah shall have a son.
Разве есть что трудное для Господа? Нет! Я возвращусь весной, как сказал, и у Сарры будет сын".
And Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh; for she was afraid. And he said, No; but thou didst laugh.
Сарра сказала: "Я не смеялась!" (Она сказала так, потому что испугалась. ) Но Господь ответил: "Я знаю, что это неправда, ты смеялась!"
Abraham Begs for Sodom
And the men rose up thence, and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to conduct them.

And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing?
Господь сказал про Себя: "Сказать ли Аврааму, что Я собираюсь сделать?
Since Abraham shall indeed become a great and mighty nation; and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him.
От Авраама произойдёт великий и могущественный народ, и все народы земли будут благословенны благодаря ему.
For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice, in order that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham what he hath spoken of him.
Я заключил с Авраамом особое соглашение, чтобы он наказал своим детям и потомкам жить так, как угодно Господу, праведно и справедливо, и тогда Я, Господь, дам ему всё, что обещал".
And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grievous,
Тогда Господь сказал: "Я слышал много раз, что жители Содома и Гоморры полны греха,
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me; and if not, I will know [it].
так пойду же и посмотрю, так ли плохи дела, как Я слышал, тогда буду знать наверняка".
And the men turned thence, and went towards Sodom; and Abraham remained yet standing before Jehovah.
Мужчины повернулись и зашагали к Содому, а Авраам остался стоять перед Господом.
And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also cause the righteous to perish with the wicked?
Приблизившись к Господу, он спросил: "Господи, не задумал ли Ты погубить и праведных людей вместе с неправедными?
There are perhaps fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not forgive the place for the sake of the fifty righteous that are therein?
Что если в городе найдётся 50 праведников? Неужели Ты всё-таки уничтожишь город? Не может быть, чтобы Ты не пощадил город ради 50 праведников, живущих в нём.
Far be it from thee to do so, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous should be as the wicked -- far be it from thee! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?
Не может быть, чтобы Ты уничтожил город и погубил 50 праведников ради того, чтобы погубить неправедных. Если бы такое случилось, то между праведниками и неправедными не было бы разницы- и те и другие будут наказаны. Ты — Судья всего земного: я знаю, что Ты поступишь справедливо".
And Jehovah said, If I find at Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will forgive all the place for their sakes.
Тогда Господь сказал: "Если Я найду в городе Содоме 50 праведников, то пощажу весь город".
And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak unto the Lord; I, who am dust and ashes.
Авраам сказал на это: "Вот, я решился говорить с Тобой, Владыка, я, пыль и зола; так дозволь же мне побеспокоить Тебя ещё одним вопросом.
Perhaps there may want five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city on account of the five? And he said, If I shall find forty-five there, I will not destroy [it].
А что если не будет хватать пяти праведников, что если в городе найдётся только сорок пять праведников? Неужели Ты разрушишь целый город из-за недостатка пяти праведников?" Господь ответил: "Если Я найду там сорок пять праведников, то не разрушу город".
And he continued yet to speak with him, and said, Perhaps there may be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty's sake.
Авраам заговорил снова и спросил: "А если Ты найдёшь там только сорок праведников, то разрушишь город?" "Если Я найду сорок праведников, то не разрушу город", — сказал Господь.
And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry that I speak! Perhaps there may be thirty found there. And he said, I will not do it if I find thirty there.
"Господи, прошу Тебя, не гневайся на меня, а позволь спросить вот что: если в городе всего тридцать праведников, разрушишь ли Ты город?" — сказал тогда Авраам. "Если Я найду там тридцать праведников, то не разрушу город", — сказал Господь.
And he said, Behold now, I have ventured to speak with the Lord. Perhaps there may be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the twenty's sake.
Тогда Авраам сказал: "Осмелюсь побеспокоить Господа ещё раз и спрошу, а что если в городе двадцать праведников?" Господь ответил: "Если Я найду двадцать праведников, то не разрушу город".
And he said, Oh, let not the Lord be angry, that I speak yet but this time! Perhaps there may be ten found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for the ten's sake.
Тогда Авраам сказал: "Господи, прошу Тебя, не гневайся на меня, а разреши побеспокоить Тебя ещё один последний раз: если Ты найдёшь там десять праведников, то что Ты сделаешь?" Господь ответил: "Если Я найду в городе десять праведников, то не разрушу его".
