The Seventh Day: God Rests

And the heavens and the earth and all their host were finished.

І довершені були небо та земля, і повне їхнє впорядкування.

And God had finished on the seventh day his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

І закінчив Бог шостого дня Свої діла, котрі робив, і відпочив сьомого дня від усіх Своїх діл, котрі створив.

And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it, because that on it he rested from all his work which God had created in making it.

І поблагословив Бог сьомий день, і освятив його, бо в той день відпочив від усіх Своїх діл, які почав Бог творити.

The Creation of Man

These are the histories of the heavens and the earth, when they were created, in the day that Jehovah Elohim made earth and heavens,

Це книга походження неба та землі, коли це сталося, — того дня, в який Бог створив небо і землю,

and every shrub of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew; for Jehovah Elohim had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground.

і всяку польову зелень — перше, ніж з’явилася на землі, і всяку польову рослинність — перше, ніж посходила: тому що не дав Бог дощу на землю, і не було людини, щоб обробляти землю.

But a mist went up from the earth, and moistened the whole surface of the ground.

Та із землі виходило джерело й зрошувало всю поверхню землі.

And Jehovah Elohim formed Man, dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and Man became a living soul.

І, взявши порох із землі, Бог створив людину, і вдихнув у її обличчя дихання життя, і стала людина душею живою.

The Planting of the Garden

And Jehovah Elohim planted a garden in Eden eastward, and there put Man whom he had formed.

І насадив Господь Бог рай у Едемі на сході, і оселив там людину, яку створив.

9

And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; and the tree of life, in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

І ще виростив Бог із землі всякі дерева — гарні на вигляд і придатні для їжі, дерево життя посеред раю і дерево, що дає знання добра і зла.

And a river went out of Eden, to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became four main streams.

А з Едему виходить ріка, щоби зрошувати рай; звідти вона розділяється на чотири рукави.

11

The name of the one is Pison: that is it which surrounds the whole land of Havilah, where the gold is.

Назва одного — Фісон: він протікає повз усю Евілатську землю — там, де є золото;

12

And the gold of that land is good; bdellium and the onyx stone are there.

золото тієї землі добре, і там є гранат і зелений камінь.

And the name of the second river is Gihon: that is it which surrounds the whole land of Cush.

А назва другої ріки — Ґеон: це та, що протікає повз всю землю Ефіопії.

14

And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which flows forward toward Asshur. And the fourth river, that is Euphrates.

Третя ріка — Тигр: вона тече напроти ассирійців. Четверта ж ріка — Євфрат.

15

The Forbidden Fruit

And Jehovah Elohim took Man, and put him into the garden of Eden, to till it and to guard it.

15

І взяв Господь Бог людину, яку створив, і оселив її в раю, щоб обробляти його та доглядати.

16

And Jehovah Elohim commanded Man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou shalt freely eat;

16

І заповів Господь Бог Адамові, кажучи: Плоди з усякого дерева, що в раю, вживатимеш у їжу.

17

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest of it thou shalt certainly die.

17

А з дерева пізнання добра і зла — не їжте з нього: у той день, коли з’їсте з нього, неодмінно помрете [1]!

18

Adam Names the Animals

And Jehovah Elohim said, It is not good that Man should be alone; I will make him a helpmate, his like.

18

І сказав Господь Бог: Недобре бути чоловікові самотнім. Створімо для нього помічника — такого, як він.

19

And out of the ground Jehovah Elohim had formed every animal of the field and all fowl of the heavens, and brought [them] to Man, to see what he would call them; and whatever Man called each living soul, that was its name.

І створив Бог ще із землі всіх польових звірів, і всіх небесних птахів; Він привів їх до Адама, щоби побачити, як їх назве. І як назвав Адам кожну живу душу, — так вона і звалася.

20

And Man gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the heavens, and to every beast of the field; but as for Adam, he found no helpmate, his like.

20

І дав Адам назви всім тваринам, всім небесним птахам і всім польовим звірам, та Адамові не знайшлося помічника, подібного до нього.

21

The Creation of Woman

And Jehovah Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall upon Man; and he slept. And he took one of his ribs and closed up flesh in its stead.

Тож Бог наслав глибокий сон на Адама, і той заснув. І Бог взяв одне з його ребер, а його місце заповнив тілом.

22

And Jehovah Elohim built the rib that he had taken from Man into a woman; and brought her to Man.

22

Ребро, яке взяв у Адама, Господь Бог перетворив на жінку і привів її до Адама.

23

And Man said, This time it is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: this shall be called Woman, because this was taken out of a man.

23

І сказав Адам: Це тепер кістка з моїх кісток і тіло з мого тіла! Вона буде називатися жінкою, адже зі свого чоловіка була взята.

24

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.

24

Тому залишить чоловік свого батька й матір і пристане до своєї жінки, — і будуть обоє одним тілом.

25

And they were both naked, Man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

25

І були обоє нагі, — і Адам, і його жінка, — та не соромилися.
