The Birth of Isaac

And Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken.

1

А Господь згадав Сарру, як сказав був, і вчинив Господь Саррі, як Він говорив.

2

And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.

2

І Сарра зачала́, і породила сина Авраамові в старості його на означений час, що про нього сказав йому Бог.

3

And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

3

І назвав Авраам ім'я́ синові своєму, що вродився йому, що Сарра йому породила: Ісак.

4

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

4

І обрізав Авраам Ісака, сина свого, коли мав він вісім день, як Бог наказав був йому.

5

And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

5

А Авраам був віку ста літ, як уродився йому Ісак, син його.

6

And Sarah said, God has made me laugh: all that hear will laugh with me.

6

І промовила Сарра: „Сміх учинив мені Бог, — кожен, хто почує, буде сміятися з мене“.

7

And she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Sarah will suckle children? For I have borne [him] a son in his old age.

7

І промовила: „Хто б сказав Авраамові: Сарра годує синів? Бо вродила я сина в старості його“.

8

And the child grew, and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

І дитина росла, і була відлучена. І справив Авраам велику гостину в день відлучення Ісака.

9

Sarah Turns against Hagar

And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

9

І побачила Сарра сина Аґари єги́птянки, що вродила була Авраамові, що він насміхається.

10

And she said to Abraham, Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son -- with Isaac.

10

I сказала вона Авраамові: „Прожени ту невільницю та сина її, бо не буде наслідувати син тієї невільниці разом із сином моїм, із Ісаком“.

11

And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

11

Але ця справа була дуже не до вподоби Авраамові через сина його.

12

And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad and because of thy handmaid: [in] all that Sarah hath said to thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.

12

І промовив Господь Авраамові: „Нехай не буде не до вподоби тобі це через хлопця та через невільницю твою. Усе, що скаже тобі Сарра, послухай голосу її, бо Ісаком буде покликане тобі потомство.

13

But also the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

13

І також сина невільниці тієї — учиню його наро́дом, бо він — твоє насіння“.

14

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a flask of water, and gave [it] to Hagar, putting [it] on her shoulder -- and the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

І встав рано Авраам, і взяв хліба й бурдюка́ води, і дав до Аґари на плече її, також дитину, та й послав її. І пішла вона, та й заблудила в пустині Беер-Шева.

15

And the water was exhausted from the flask; and she cast the child under one of the shrubs,

15

І скінчилась вода в бурдюці, і покинула вона дитину під одним із кущів.

16

and she went and sat down over against [him], a bow-shot off; for she said, Let me not behold the death of the child. And she sat over against [him], and lifted up her voice and wept.

16

І пішла вона, і сіла собі навпроти, на віддалі — як стрілити луком, бо сказала: „Нехай я не бачу смерти цієї дитини!“ І сіла навпроти, і піднесла свій голос та й заплакала.

17

And God heard the voice of the lad. And the Angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens, and said to her, What [aileth] thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad there, where he is.

17

І почув Бог голос того хлопця. І кликнув до Аґари Божий Ангол із неба, і сказав їй: „Що тобі, Аґаро? Не бійся, бо почув Бог голос хлопця, де він там.

18

Arise, take the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation.

18

Устань, підійми хлопця, і рукою своєю держи його, бо великим наро́дом зроблю Я його“.

19

And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the flask with water, and gave the lad drink.

19

І відкрив Бог очі її, і вона побачила криницю води. І пішла вона, і наповнила бурдюка водою, та й напоїла хлопця.

20

And God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

20

І з хлопцем був Бог, — і він виріс. І осів у пустині, і став він стрілець-лучник.

21

And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

21

І осів він у пустині Паран, а мати його взяла йому жінку з єгипетського кра́ю.

22

The Covenant at Beersheba

And it came to pass at that time that Abimelech, and Phichol the captain of his host, spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest.

22

І сталося ча́су того, і сказав Авімеле́х і Піхол, головний провідник його війська, до Авраама, говорячи: „Бог із тобою в усьому, що́ ти робиш!

23

And now swear to me here by God that thou wilt not deal deceitfully with me, nor with my son, nor with my grandson. According to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land in which thou sojournest.

23

А тепер присягни ж мені Богом отут, що ти не обманиш мене, і нащадка мого, і онука мого. І яка була ласка, яку я до тебе чинив, ти вчиниш зо мною та з краєм, що ти в нім чужинцем пробува́єш“.

24

And Abraham said, I will swear.

24

І сказав Авраам: „Я присягаю!“

25

And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water that Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

25

І Авраам дорікав Авімелехові за криницю води, що її відняли були Авімелехові раби.

26

And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me [of it], neither have I heard [of it] but to-day.

26

І сказав Авімелех: „Я не знаю, хто вчинив оту річ, — ані ти не розповів мені, й ані я не чув, хібащо сьогодні“.

27

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

27

І взяв Авраам дрібну та велику худобу, та й дав Авімелехові, і оби́два вони склали умову.

28

And Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves.

28

І поставив Авраам сім овечок з дрібного товару осібно.

29

And Abimelech said to Abraham, What [mean] these seven ewe-lambs, these which thou hast set by themselves?

29

І сказав Авімелех до Авраама: „Що́ вони, сім овечок отих, що ти їх поставив осібно?“

30

And he said, That thou take the seven ewe-lambs of my hand, that they may be a witness to me that I have dug this well.

30

А той відказав: „Бо з моєї руки сім овечок ти візьмеш, щоб для мене були на свідоцтво, що я́ викопав цю криницю“.

31

Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they had sworn, both of them.

31

Тому то назвав він це місце Беер-Шева, бо там поклялися вони.

32

And they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines.

32

І склали умову вони в Беер-Шеві. І встав Авімелех та Піхол, головний провідник його війська, і вернулись вони до краю филистимського.

33

And [Abraham] planted a tamarisk in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal God.

33

А Авраам посадив тамариска в Беер-Шеві, і кликав там Ім'я́ Господа, Бога Вічного.

34

And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.

34

І Авраам пробув́ав у филистимській землі багато днів.
