Dan and Naphtali

And when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

1

Вбачаючи ж Рахеля, що не вродила Яковові нїякої дитини, завидувала Рахеля сестрі своїй, та й каже Яковові: Дай менї дїток, ато вмру.

2

And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel, and he said, Am I in God's stead, who has withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

Загорівся ж Яков гнївом на Рахелю, і каже: Хиба я тобі замість Бога, що не дав тобі утробного плоду?

3

And she said, Behold, there is my maid, Bilhah: go in to her, in order that she may bear on my knees, and I may also be built up by her.

3

Каже ж вона: Ось раба моя Балла; увійди до неї та нехай уродить на колїна мої, щоб і в мене були дїтки від неї.

4

And she gave him Bilhah her maidservant as wife, and Jacob went in to her.

4

І оддала йому Баллу, рабиню свою за жінку, і ввійшов до неї Яков.

And Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son.

5

І завагонїла Балла, та й уродила Яковові сина.

6

And Rachel said, God has done me justice, and has also heard my voice, and given me a son; therefore she called his name Dan.

І рече Рахеля: Бог судив менї, і послухав голосу мого, і дав менї сина. Тим і дала йому імя: Дан.

7

And Bilhah Rachel's maidservant again conceived, and bore Jacob a second son.

7

І завагонїла знов Балла, рабиня Рахелина, й уродила сина другого Яковові.

8

And Rachel said, Wrestlings of God have I wrestled with my sister, and have prevailed; and she called his name Naphtali.

І рече Рахеля: Великою боротьбою боролась я з сестрою моєю, та й перемогла. Тим і дала йому імя: Нафталїй.

Gad and Asher

And when Leah saw that she had ceased to bear, she took Zilpah her maidservant and gave her to Jacob as wife.

9

Вбачала ж Лея, що перестала роджати, і взяла Зелфу, рабу свою, та й оддала її Яковові за жінку.

10

And Zilpah Leah's maidservant bore Jacob a son.

10

І вродила Зелфа, рабиня Леїна, Яковові сина.

11

And Leah said, Fortunately! and she called his name Gad.

11

І рече Лея: Пощастило менї! І дала йому імя: Гад.

12

And Zilpah Leah's maidservant bore Jacob a second son.

12

І вродила Зелфа, рабиня Леїна, Яковові сина другого.

13

And Leah said, Happy am I; for the daughters will call me blessed! and she called his name Asher.

13

І каже Лея: Щасна я; бо дочки зватимуть мене блаженною. І дала йому імя: Ассер.

14

And Reuben went out in the days of wheat-harvest, and found mandrakes in the fields; and he brought them to his mother Leah. And Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's mandrakes.

14

І пійшов Рубен під пшеничні жнива, та й знайшов любовні яблука на полї, та й принїс їх до Леї, матері своєї. Каже ж Рахеля до Леї: Дай менї любовних яблук сина твого!

15

And she said to her, Is it [too] little that thou hast taken my husband, that thou wilt take my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to-night for thy son's mandrakes.

Рече ж вона їй: Хиба се мала річ, що взяла єси мужа мого? Чи й любовні яблука сина мого віднїмеш? Каже ж Рахеля: Дак нехай переночує з тобою сьогоднї за любовні яблука сина твого.

16

And when Jacob came from the fields in the evening, Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in to me, for indeed I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

Прийшов же Яков з поля в вечорі, і вийшла Лея зустріч йому, і каже: Мусиш увійти до мене; найняла бо я справдї тебе за любовні яблука сина мого. І переночував він з нею тієї ночи.

Issachar, Zebulun, and Dinah

And God hearkened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son.

17

І послухав Бог Леї, і завагонїла вона, і вродила Яковові сина пятого.

18

And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I have given my maidservant to my husband; and she called his name Issachar.

18

І каже Лея: Дав менї Бог плату мою; бо оддала рабиню мою мужеві мойму. І дала йому імя: Іссахар.

19

And Leah again conceived, and bore Jacob a sixth son;

19

І завагонїла знов Лея, і вродила сина шестого Яковові.

20

and Leah said, God has endowed me with a good dowry; this time will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons. And she called his name Zebulun.

20

І каже Лея: Подарував менї Бог гостиньца гарного, поважити ме мене муж мій; уродила бо йому шестьох синів. І дала імя йому: Себулон.

21

And afterwards she bore a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

21

А потім уродила дочку, і дала імя їй: Дина.

22

The Birth of Joseph

And God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her, and opened her womb.

22

І зглянувся Бог на Рахелю, і почув її Бог, і відчинив утробу їй.

23

And she conceived, and bore a son, and said, God has taken away my reproach.

23

І завагонївши вродила сина, і каже: Одняв Бог докір мій.

24

And she called his name Joseph; and said, Jehovah will add to me another son.

24

І дала імя йому: Йосиф, говорючи: Дай менї, Господе, й другого сина.

25

Jacob Prospers

And it came to pass when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, Send me away, that I may go to my place and to my country.

25

Сталося ж, як уродила Рахеля Йосифа, каже Яков Лабанові: Відпусти мене, нехай іду в домівку мою й на вкраїну мою.

26

Give [me] my wives for whom I have served thee, and my children; that I may go away, for thou knowest my service which I have served thee.

26

Віддай жени й діти мої, що за них парубкував тобі; ти знаєш роботу, що робив тобі.

27

And Laban said to him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes -- I have discovered that Jehovah has blessed me for thy sake.

27

Каже йому Лабан: Коли б знайшов я ласку в тебе! Вбачаю бо, що благословив мене Господь задля тебе.

28

And he said, Appoint to me thy wages, and I will give it.

28

І каже: Визнач плату свою в мене, я й дам тобі.

29

And he said to him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and what thy cattle has become with me.

29

Каже йому: Ти знаєш, як я парубкував у тебе, і якою твоя скотина зробилась у мене.

30

For it was little that thou hadst before me, and it is increased to a multitude, and Jehovah has blessed thee from the time I came; and now, when shall I also provide for my house?

30

Мало бо що було в тебе до мене, та й наросло багацько, і благословив тебе Господь з приходу мого. Тепер же коли менї дбати й про власну господу?

31

And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me anything. If thou doest this for me, I will again feed [and] keep thy flock:

31

І каже: Що мушу тобі дати? Каже ж Яков: Не давай менї нїчогісїнько, аби вчинив, що скажу, знов пасти му вівцї твої й доглядати му.

32

I will pass through all thy flock to-day, to remove thence all the speckled and spotted sheep, and all the brown lambs, and the spotted and speckled among the goats; and [that] shall be my hire.

32

Пройду я через усю отару твою сьогоднї, а й вилучу все переполасе й крапасте, і все чорне між вівцями, й усе переполасе й крапаcте між козами, і се буде моя плата.

33

And my righteousness shall answer for me hereafter, when thou comest about my hire, before thy face: all that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the lambs, let that be stolen with me.

33

Так моя правда говорити ме за мене завтрашнёго дня, як прийдеш давати плату мою. Усе непереполасе й не крапаcте між козами і не чорне між вівцями, мусить уважатись у мене за вкрадене.

34

And Laban said, Well, let it be according to thy word.

34

Каже ж йому Лабан: Добре, нехай буде по слову твойму.

35

And he removed that day the he-goats that were ringstraked and spotted, and all the she-goats that were speckled and spotted, every one that had white in it, and all the brown among the lambs, and gave [them] into the hand of his sons.

35

І повилучував того ж дня козли переполасі й крапасті, і усе, що мало біле в себе і все, що чорне між вівцями, та й пооддавав в руки синам своїм.

36

And he put three days' journey between himself and Jacob. And Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flock.

36

І поставив три днї ходи між собою й Яковом. Яков же пас остальні вівцї Лабанові.

37

And Jacob took fresh rods of white poplar, almond-tree, and maple; and peeled off white stripes in them, uncovering the white which was on the rods.

37

Узяв же Яков собі по цїпку зеленому тополевому, лїсковому й каштановому, та й помережив білими мережками, і луплячи повиявлював біле, що було на цїпках.

38

And he set the rods which he had peeled before the flock, in the troughs at the watering-places where the flock came to drink, and they were ardent when they came to drink.

38

І клав цїпки, що помережив, у напувальні корита та в водяні ринви, як приходили отарі до водопійла, щоб вагонїли на водопійлї.

39

And the flock was ardent before the rods; and the flock brought forth ringstraked, speckled, and spotted.

39

І вагонїли отарі перед цїпками, та й котились ягнятами й козенятами переполасими й крапастими.

40

And Jacob separated the lambs, and set the faces of the flock toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he made himself separate flocks, and did not put them with Laban's flock.

40

Ягнята ж вилучав Яков і ставляв отарі лицем до переполасого і чорного в отарі Лабановій, й держав свої отарі окроме, і не ставляв укупі з Лабановими.

41

And it came to pass whensoever the strong cattle were ardent, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the flock in the gutters, that they might become ardent among the rods;

41

І сталося, як вагонїла лучча скотина, Яков клав цїпки перед очима в скоту в корита, щоб вагонїли між цїпками.

42

but when the sheep were feeble, he put [them] not in; so the feeble were Laban's, and the strong Jacob's.

42

Як же гуляла скотина слабовита, не клав туди цїпків; тим робом слабовите було Лабанові, а лучче Яковові.

43

And the man increased very, very much, and had much cattle, and bondwomen, and bondmen, and camels, and asses.

43

І збогатився чоловік безлїч, і було в його скотини много, і раби, і рабинї, і верблюди, й осли.
