Jacob Meets Esau

And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. And he distributed the children to Leah, and to Rachel, and to the two maidservants:

Иаков взглянул и увидел, что идёт Исав, и вместе с ним ещё 400 человек. Он разделил свою семью на четыре группы: Лия со своими детьми была в одной группе, Рахиль с Иосифом были в другой, а в двух других группах были две служанки со своими детьми.

and he put the maidservants and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindmost.

И поставил Иаков служанок с их детьми первыми, Лию с её детьми — позади служанок, а Рахиль с Иосифом — последними.

And he passed on before them, and bowed to the earth seven times, until he came near to his brother.

Сам Иаков пошёл перед ними, находу кланяясь до земли семь раз и кланялся так, пока не подошёл к брату.

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they wept.

Увидев Иакова, Исав побежал ему навстречу, заключил его в объятия, обнял за шею и поцеловал, и оба они заплакали.

And he lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children, and said, Who are these with thee? And he said, The children that God has graciously given thy servant.

Исав взглянул и, увидев женщин с детьми, спросил: "Кто все эти люди с тобой?" "Дети, которых Бог послал мне по Своей милости", — ответил Иаков.

And the maidservants drew near, they and their children, and they bowed.

И обе служанки вместе с детьми подошли к Исаву и поклонились ему,

And Leah also, with her children, drew near, and they bowed. And lastly Joseph drew near, and Rachel, and they bowed.

потом к нему подошла Лия с детьми и поклонилась ему, а потом и Рахиль с Иосифом подошли и поклонились Исаву.

And he said, What [meanest] thou by all the drove which I met? And he said, To find favour in the eyes of my lord.

Исав спросил: "Кто были все те люди, которых я видел по дороге? И откуда весь этот скот?" "Это мои дары тебе, чтобы ты меня принял", — ответил Иаков.

9

And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; let what thou hast be thine.

9

Но Исав сказал: "Тебе незачем приносить мне дары, брат, у меня у самого достаточно всего".

10

And Jacob said, No, I pray thee; if now I have found favour in thine eyes, then receive my gift from my hand; for therefore have I seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou hast received me with pleasure.

Иаков же ответил: "Нет, прошу тебя, если ты в самом деле принимаешь меня, то прими и дары, которые я приношу тебе. Я очень счастлив снова видеть твоё лицо — как будто вижу лик Бога. Я очень счастлив, что ты принимаешь меня,

Take, I pray thee, my blessing which has been brought to thee; because God has been gracious to me, and because I have everything. And he urged him, and he took [it].

и потому, прошу, прими также и мои дары тебе. Бог был милостив ко мне, и у меня добра больше, чем мне нужно". Иаков упросил Исава, чтобы тот принял дары, и Исав их принял.

12

And he said, Let us take our journey, and go on, and I will go before thee.

После этого Исав сказал: "Теперь можешь продолжать свой путь, а я пойду с тобой".

13

And he said to him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the suckling sheep and kine are with me; and if they should overdrive them only one day, all the flock would die.

Иаков ответил: "Ты видишь, что мои дети обессилели, к тому же я должен поберечь мелкий скот и его приплод. Если я буду гнать его целый день, то все животные погибнут.

14

Let my lord, I pray thee, pass on before his servant, and I will drive on at my ease according to the pace of the cattle that is before me, and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord, to Seir.

Ты иди вперед, а я пойду за тобой не спеша, чтобы не подвергать опасности крупный скот и остальных животных и чтобы дети не устали, и встречусь с тобой в Сеире".

15

And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee [some] of the people that are with me. And he said, What need? Let me find favour in the eyes of my lord.

"Тогда я оставлю тебе в помощь часть моих людей", — сказал Исав, но Иаков ответил: "Велико твоё благоволение, но в этом нет нужды".

And Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.

В тот же день Исав отправился в обратный путь в Сеир,

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house, and for his cattle he made booths. Therefore the name of the place was called Succoth.

Иаков направился в Сокхоф. Там он построил дом для себя и небольшие загоны для своего скота, потому-то и назвали это место Сокхоф.

Jacob Settles in Shechem

And Jacob came safely [to the] city Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-Aram; and he encamped before the city.

Иаков благополучно завершил путешествие из Падан-арама. Придя в город Сихем, в земле Ханаанской, он поставил стан в поле перед городом,

19

And he bought the portion of the field where he had spread his tent, of the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred kesitahs.

19

купив это поле у семьи Еммора, отца Сихема, за сто серебряных монет.

20

And there he set up an altar, and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

На этом месте Иаков поставил алтарь для поклонения Богу и назвал это место "Эл, Бог Израиля".
