David Plans a Temple

And it came to pass when the king dwelt in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest round about from all his enemies,

1

І сталося, коли цар осів у своєму домі, а Госпо́дь дав йому відпочи́нути від усіх ворогів його навколо,

that the king said to Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedars, and the ark of God dwells under curtains.

то цар сказав до пророка Ната́на: „Подивися, — я сиджу́ в ке́дровому домі, а Божий ковчег знахо́диться під заві́сою!“

3

And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee.

3

І сказав Ната́н до царя: „Усе, що в серці твоїм, іди й зроби, бо Госпо́дь з тобою“.

God's Covenant with David

And it came to pass that night that the word of Jehovah came to Nathan, saying,

І сталося тієї ночі, і було Господнє слово до Ната́на, кажучи:

Go and say to my servant, to David, Thus saith Jehovah: Wilt thou build me a house for me to dwell in?

5

„Іди й скажеш до раба Мого, до Давида: Так сказав Господь: Чи ти збудуєш Мені дім на Моє пробува́ння?

6

For I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but I went about in a tent and in a tabernacle.

Бо Я не пробува́в у домі від дня ви́ведення Мого Ізраїлевих синів з Єгипту й аж до цього дня, але ходив у наметі та в шатрі.

7

In all my going about with all the children of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, Why build ye me not a house of cedars?

Скрізь, де ходив Я поміж Ізраїлевими сина́ми, чи промовив Я хоч слово з яким із Ізраїлевих племе́н, якому наказав Я пасти́ наро́да Мого, Ізраїля, говорячи: Чому не збудува́ли ви Мені ке́дрового дому?

And now, thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I took thee from the pasture-grounds, from following the sheep, to be prince over my people, over Israel;

А тепер так скажеш Моєму рабові Давидові: Так сказав Господь Саваот: Я взяв тебе з пасови́ська, як ходив ти за отарою, щоб ти став володарем над народом Моїм, над Ізраїлем.

9

and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are on the earth.

І був Я з тобою в усьому, де ти ходив, і ви́губив Я всіх ворогів твоїх з-перед тебе, і зробив тобі велике ім'я́, як ім'я́ великих на землі.

10

And I will appoint a place for my people, for Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and be disturbed no more; neither shall the sons of wickedness afflict them any more, as formerly,

І встановив Я місце для наро́ду Мого, для Ізраїля, і він пробува́тиме на своєму місці, і не буде вже непоко́єний, і кривдники не будуть більше гноби́ти його, як перед тим.

11

and since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. And I have given thee rest from all thine enemies; and Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house.

А від того дня, як Я настанови́в суддів над народом Моїм, Ізраїлем, то Я дав тобі мир від усіх ворогів твоїх. І Господь об'являє тобі, що Господь побуду́є тобі дім.

12

When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

Коли ви́повняться твої дні, і ти ляжеш із своїми батьками, то Я поста́влю по тобі насіння твоє, що вийде з утро́би твоєї, і зміцню́ його царство.

13

It is he who shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

13

Він збуду́є дім для Йме́ння Мого́, а Я зміцню́ престо ла його царства навіки.

14

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men;

14

Я буду йому за Батька, а він буде Мені за сина. Коли він скри́вить дорогу свою, то Я покараю його лю́дською па́лицею та пора́зами лю́дських синів.

15

but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before thee.

15

Та ми́лість Моя не відхилиться від нього, як відхилив Я її від Саула, якого Я відкинув перед Тобою.

16

And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made firm for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.

16

І буде певним твій дім та царство твоє аж навіки перед тобою. Престол твій бу́де міцно стояти аж навіки!“

17

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

17

Як усі ці слова́, як усе це виді́ння, — так говорив Ната́н до Давида.

18

David's Prayer of Thanksgiving

And king David went in and sat before Jehovah, and said, Who am I, Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

18

Тоді прийшов цар Давид, і сів перед Господнім лицем та й сказав: „Хто я, Господи Боже, і що́ мій дім, що Ти привів мене аж сюди?

19

And yet this hath been a small thing in thy sight, Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, Lord Jehovah?

Та й це ще було мале́ в оча́х Твоїх, Господи Боже, і Ти говорив також про Свого раба в будуччині. А це за зако́ном лю́дським, Господи Боже!

20

And what can David say more to thee? for thou, Lord Jehovah, knowest thy servant.

20

І що́ ще більше говори́тиме Давид Тобі? Та Ти знаєш Свого раба́, Господи Боже!

21

For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, to make thy servant know [it].

21

Ради сло́ва Свого та за серцем Своїм Ти зробив усю цю вели́чність, звіща́ючи це Своєму рабо́ві.

22

Wherefore thou art great, Jehovah Elohim; for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

22

Тому Ти великий, Господи Боже, бо немає такого, як Ти, і немає Бога, окрім Тебе, згідно з усім, що ми чули своїми уши́ма.

23

And who is like thy people, like Israel, the one nation in the earth that God went to redeem to be a people to himself, and to make himself a name, and to do for them great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thyself from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

23

А який є ще один люд на землі, як Твій народ, Ізраїль, щоб Бог приходив ви́купити його Собі за наро́д, і щоб установити йому Своє́ Йме́ння, — і щоб учинити вам цю вели́чність, — та страшні́ речі для Свого Кра́ю ради наро́ду Свого, якого ви́купив Собі з Єгипту, від людей та від богів його?

And thou hast established to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, Jehovah, art become their God.

24

І Ти зміцни́в Собі народ Свій, Ізраїля, — Собі за наро́д аж навіки, і Ти, Господи, став для них за Бога.

25

And now, Jehovah Elohim, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house, fulfil it for ever, and do as thou hast said.

25

А тепер, Господи Боже, затверди аж навіки те слово, що Ти говорив про Свого раба та про дім його, і вчини, як Ти говори́в!

26

And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel; and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.

26

Нехай буде великим Ім'я́ Твоє аж навіки, щоб говорити: Госпо́дь Савао́т — Бог над Ізраїлем! А дім Твого раба Давида буде міцно стояти перед лицем Твоїм!

27

For thou, Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house; therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

27

Бо Ти, Го́споди Савао́те, Боже Ізра́їлів, об'яви́в Своєму рабові, говорячи: Збуду́ю тобі дім, тому́ раб Твій здобу́вся на відва́гу помолитися до Тебе цією молитвою!

28

And now, Lord Jehovah, thou art that God, and thy words are true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant;

28

А тепер, Господи Боже, Ти — Той Бог, а слова́ Твої будуть правдою, і Ти говорив Своєму рабові це добро.

29

and now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever; for thou, Lord Jehovah, hast spoken it; and with thy blessing shall the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

29

А тепер зволь поблагослови́ти дім Свого раба, щоб був навіки перед лицем Твоїм, бо Ти, Господи Боже, говорив це, і від Твого благослове́ння буде поблагосло́влений навіки дім раба Твого!“
