Elijah Flees Jezebel

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and in detail how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

Царь Ахав рассказал Иезавели обо всём, что сделал Илия, и о том, что он убил мечом всех пророков.

And Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah saying, So do the gods [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time!

И отправила Иезавель посланца к Илии сказать: "Я обещаю, что завтра к этому времени я убью тебя, как ты убил этих пророков. Если я не сделаю этого, тогда пусть боги накажут меня".

And when he saw [that], he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Когда Илия услышал об этом, он очень испугался и убежал, чтобы спасти свою жизнь. Он пришёл в Вирсавию Иудейскую и оставил там своего слугу, которого взял с собой.

And he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a certain broom-bush, and requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough: now, Jehovah, take my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

А сам целый день шёл по пустыне. Он сел под кустом и стал просить себе смерти. Он сказал: "Довольно мне, Господи! Возьми жизнь мою. Я не лучше предков моих".

And he lay down and slept under the broom-bush. And behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, Arise, eat!

Затем он лёг под деревом и уснул. И коснулся Ангел его и сказал: "Встань, поешь!"

And he looked, and behold, at his head was a cake, baked on hot stones, and a cruse of water. And he ate and drank, and lay down again.

Илия огляделся и увидел у изголовья лепёшку, выпеченную на углях, и кувшин воды. Он поел и попил, а затем снова лёг и заснул.

And the angel of Jehovah came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise, eat; for the journey is too great for thee.

Позже Ангел Господень снова пришёл к нему, коснулся его и сказал: "Встань, поешь, иначе у тебя не будет сил для дальней дороги".

And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God.

Он встал, поел и напился, и, подкрепившись той пищей, шёл сорок дней и ночей до Божьей горы Хорива.

The Lord Speaks to Elijah at Horeb

And there he went into a cave, and lodged there. And behold, the word of Jehovah [came] to him, and he said to him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Там Илия вошёл в пещеру и провёл в ней ночь. Затем было к нему слово Господа. Господь сказал ему: "Почему ты здесь, Илия?"

And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I am left, I alone, and they seek my life, to take it away.

Илия ответил: "Господи, Бог Всемогущий, я всегда служил Тебе. Но израильтяне отказались от Твоего завета, разрушили Твои алтари и убили Твоих пророков. Я — единственный пророк, оставшийся в живых. А сейчас они пытаются убить и меня тоже!"

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Jehovah. And behold, Jehovah passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before Jehovah: Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake: Jehovah was not in the earthquake.

И сказал Господь Илии: "Выйди и стань на горе перед лицом Господа. Господь пройдёт мимо тебя". Затем подул сильный ветер, разрушающий горы и сокрушающий скалы перед Господом. Но Господа не было в ветре! После ветра было землетрясение. Но Господа не было в землетрясении.

And after the earthquake, a fire: Jehovah was not in the fire. And after the fire, a soft gentle voice.

После землетрясения был огонь. Но Господа не было в огне. После огня был тихий, нежный звук.

13

And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice [came] to him and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Когда Илия услышал этот звук, он закрыл лицо своё плащом, вышел и встал у входа в пещеру. Затем голос сказал ему: "Илия, почему ты здесь?"

And he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I am left, I alone, and they seek my life, to take it away.

Илия ответил: "О Господи, Бог Всемогущий, я всегда усердно служил Тебе. Но израильтяне нарушили Твой завет, разрушили Твои алтари и убили Твоих пророков. Я — единственный пророк, оставшийся в живых. А сейчас они пытаются убить и меня тоже".

15

And Jehovah said to him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when thou comest, anoint Hazael king over Syria;

И сказал ему Господь: "Пойди обратно по той дороге, по которой ты пришёл, в пустыню вокруг Дамаска. Войди в Дамаск и помажь Азаила на царство в Сирии.

16

and Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint prophet in thy stead.

Затем помажь Ииуя, сына Намессиина, стать царём над Израилем. Затем помажь Елисея, сына Сафата, из Авел-Мехолы. Он будет пророком вместо тебя.

17

And it shall come to pass, [that] him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him that escapeth the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

Азаил убьёт много людей. Тех, кто спасётся от меча Азаила, убьёт Ииуй. А тех, кто спасётся от меча Ииуя, убьёт Елисей.

18

Yet I have left [myself] seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth that hath not kissed him.

Но даже после этого в Израиле останется семь тысяч человек. Их колени не преклонялись перед Ваалом, и они никогда не целовали его идолов".

The Call of Elisha

And he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was ploughing [with] twelve yokes before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah went over to him, and cast his mantle on him.

И ушёл Илия оттуда и нашёл Елисея, сына Сафата. Он вспахивал двенадцать акров земли. Елисей распахивал двенадцатый, когда пришёл Илия. Илия подошёл к нему и протянул ему свой плащ.

20

And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and I will follow thee. And he said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?

Елисей сразу оставил своих волов и побежал за Илией. Елисей сказал: "Позволь мне поцеловать мать мою и отца моего на прощание. Потом я пойду за тобой". Илия ответил: "Хорошо, иди. Я не остановлю тебя".

And he returned back from him, and took the yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. And he arose and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.

Елисей ушёл и зарезал пару волов. Он сжёг плуг и сварил мясо. Затем он раздал его людям, и они съели его. После этого Елисей пошёл за Илией и стал его помощником.
