Elijah Taken to Heaven

And it came to pass when Jehovah would take up Elijah into the heavens by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

І сталося, коли Господь забирав Іллю у вихорі, так, наче на небо, то Ілля та Елісей подорожували з Ґалґала.

And Elijah said to Elisha, Abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! So they went down to Bethel.

І сказав Ілля Елісеєві: Перебувай тут, бо Господь мене послав аж у Ветиль. Та Елісей сказав: Нехай живе Господь, і нехай живе твоя душа, не залишу тебе! І вони прийшли до Ветиля.

3

And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Dost thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from over thy head to-day? And he said, I also know it: be silent!

А сини пророків, які у Ветилі, поприходили до Елісея й сказали йому: Чи ти вже знаєш, що сьогодні Господь забирає твого володаря над твоєю головою? А він відповів: І я знаю, — мовчіть!

And Elijah said to him, Elisha, abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! And they came to Jericho.

І промовив Ілля до Елісея: Перебувай тут, бо Господь послав мене в Єрихон. І сказав Елісей: Нехай живе Господь, і хай живе твоя душа, не залишу тебе! І вони прийшли до Єрихона.

And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, Dost thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from over thy head to-day? And he said, I also know it: be silent!

І наблизилися до Елісея сини пророків, які в Єрихоні, і сказали йому: Чи ти знаєш, що сьогодні Господь забирає твого володаря з-понад твоєї голови? А він відповів: І я знаю, — мовчіть!

And Elijah said to him, Abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! And they two went on.

І сказав йому Ілля: Перебувай тут, бо Господь послав мене аж до Йордану. Та Елісей сказав: Нехай живе Господь, і нехай живе твоя душа, не залишу тебе! І вони пішли обидва разом.

7

And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite afar off; and they two stood by the Jordan.

А сини пророків, п’ятдесят чоловік, стали напроти вдалині. Вони ж обидва стали біля Йордану.

8

And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither; and they two went over on dry ground.

8

Ілля взяв свій плащ, звинув і вдарив об воду, і вода розступилася по обидва боки, і вони обидва перейшли до пустелі.

9

And it came to pass when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

І сталося, коли вони переходили, то Ілля промовив до Елісея: Проси, що маю зробити для тебе, перш, ніж я буду забраний від тебе! А Елісей сказав: Нехай на мені буде вдвічі більше твого духа!

And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so to thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].

Тяжкого попросив ти, — відповів Ілля, — якщо побачиш, як мене забирають від тебе, то буде тобі так. А якщо ні, — не буде.

And it came to pass as they went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire; and they parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into the heavens.

І сталося, коли вони йшли, розмовляючи [1] , аж ось з’явилися вогненна колісниця, вогненні коні, та й розділили їх обох, — Ілля у вихорі був забраний, наче на небо.

And Elisha saw [it], and he cried, My father, my father! the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof! And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own garments and rent them in two pieces.

А Елісей побачив і закричав: Батьку, батьку, колісниця Ізраїля і його вершник! І більше він його не побачив, схопив свій одяг і роздер його на дві частини.

13

And he took up the mantle of Elijah which fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan;

13

І він підняв плащ Іллі, який упав на Елісея, і Елісей повернувся, і став на березі Йордану.

14

and he took the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah? He also smote the waters, and they parted hither and thither, and Elisha went over.

Він узяв плащ Іллі, який упав на нього, ударив по воді, та вона не розступилася. І він сказав: Де Бог Іллі? І вдарив по воді, і води розступилися сюди й туди, і Елісей перейшов.

15

Elisha Succeeds Elijah

And the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho on the opposite side saw him, and they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him,

І побачили його сини пророків, які були напроти в Єрихоні, і сказали: Спочив дух Іллі на Елісеєві. І вони вийшли йому назустріч, і поклонилися йому до землі.

16

and said to him, Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty valiant men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master, lest perhaps the Spirit of Jehovah have taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some ravine. And he said, Ye shall not send.

Вони сказали йому: Ось з твоїми слугами — п’ятдесят чоловік, придатних до війни. Пішовши, хай пошукають за твоїм володарем, чи часом Господній Дух не взяв його і не кинув його в Йордан, чи на одну з гір або на якусь вершину. І сказав Елісей: Не посилайте!

And they pressed him till he was ashamed, and he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men, and they sought three days, but did not find him.

Та вони налягали на нього доти, доки не засоромився, і він сказав: Пошліть! І послали п’ятдесят мужів, і три дні шукали, але не знайшли його.

18

And they came again to him (now he was staying at Jericho); and he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not?

18

Вони повернулися до нього, а він перебував у Єрихоні. Тож Елісей сказав: Хіба я не сказав вам: Не йдіть?

19

Elisha Heals Jericho's Waters

And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold now, the situation of the city is good, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is barren.

А мужі міста промовили до Елісея: Ось проживання в місті добре, так, як володар бачить, та води погані, і земля неплідна.

20

And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt in it. And they brought it to him.

20

І сказав Елісей: Візьміть мені нове відро і покладіть туди сіль! І принесли йому.

21

And he went forth to the source of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith Jehovah: I have healed these waters: there shall not be from thence any more death or barrenness.

21

І Елісей вийшов до водного джерела, і кинув туди сіль, кажучи: Так говорить Господь: Оздоровляю ці води, більше не буде звідси смерті й неплідності.

22

And the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.

І вилікувалися води аж до цього дня за словом Елісея, яке він сказав.

Elisha Mocked

And he went up from thence to Bethel, and as he went up by the way, there came forth little boys out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head; go up, bald head!

23

І він пішов звідти до Ветиля. Коли він ішов дорогою, то малі діти вийшли з міста, глузували з нього і казали йому: Іди, лисий, іди!

24

And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of Jehovah. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty-two children of them.

І він повернувся за ними, побачив їх і прокляв їх в Ім’я Господнє. І ось з лісу вийшли дві ведмедиці та роздерли з них сорок двох дітей.

25

And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.

25

І він пішов звідси до гори Кармил, а звідти повернувся в Самарію.
