Jehu Anointed King of Israel

And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, Gird up thy loins, and take this vial of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-Gilead.

Пророк Елісей покликав одного із синів-пророків і сказав йому: Підпережи свої стегна, візьми ріг цієї олії у свою руку і йди в Реммот ґалаадський.

And when thou art come thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him rise up from among his brethren, and bring him to an inner chamber;

Прийдеш туди і побачиш там Ію, сина Йосафата, сина Намессія, увійдеш і забереш його з-посеред його братів, і введеш його в потаємну кімнату.

3

then take the vial of oil, and pour it on his head and say, Thus saith Jehovah: I have anointed thee king over Israel; and open the door, and flee, and tarry not.

І візьмеш ріг з олією, і зіллєш на його голову, кажучи: Так говорить Господь: Я тебе помазав на царя над Ізраїлем! І відкриєш двері, втечеш і не залишишся.

And the young man, the young prophet, went to Ramoth-Gilead.

І слуга пророка пішов у Реммот ґалаадський,

And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting. And he said, I have an errand to thee, captain. And Jehu said, To which of all of us? And he said, To thee, captain.

5

і ввійшов, і ось сиділи військові командири. І він сказав: У мене слово до тебе, командире! А Ія запитав: До кого з усіх нас? Той сказав: До тебе, командире!

6

And he rose up and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: I have anointed thee king over the people of Jehovah, over Israel.

Тож він піднявся і зайшов у дім, а той злив олію на його голову і сказав йому: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Я тебе помазав на царя над Господнім народом, над Ізраїлем!

7

And thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy master; and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Jehovah at the hand of Jezebel.

Ти вигубиш дім Ахава, свого володаря, з-перед Мене, і помстишся за кров Моїх рабів-пророків і за кров усіх Господніх рабів з руки Єзавелі

8

And the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male, and him that is shut up and left in Israel.

й з руки всього дому Ахава, і вигубиш дім Ахава, того, хто мочиться проти стіни, — і поневоленого, і того, хто залишився в Ізраїлі!

9

And I will make the house of Ahab as the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and as the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.

Я зроблю дім Ахава, як дім Єровоама, сина Навата, і як дім Вааси, сина Ахії.

10

And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the plot of Jizreel, and none shall bury her. And he opened the door and fled.

А Єзавель з’їдять пси в частині Єзраела, і не буде кому поховати! І він відкрив двері, та втік.

11

And Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord. And one said to him, Is all well? why came this madman to thee? And he said to them, Ye know the man, and his mind.

11

І вийшов Ія до слуг свого володаря, а вони запитали його: Чи мир? Як це, що цей безумний увійшов до тебе? Він же відповів їм: Ви ж знаєте цього чоловіка і його пусті балачки.

12

And they said, It is false! tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spoke he to me saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I have anointed thee king over Israel.

Та вони сказали: Неправда! Звісти ж нам! Тож Ія промовив до них: Так і так сказав мені він, проголошуючи: Так говорить Господь: Я тебе помазав на царя над Ізраїлем!

13

Then they hasted and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the very stairs, and blew with trumpets, and said, Jehu is king!

Коли вони почули, то поспішили, кожний узяв свій плащ і поклав під ним на верх сходів, тоді вони затрубили в ріг і проголосили: Зацарював Ія!

Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah

And Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram kept Ramoth-Gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria;

І Ія, син Йосафата, син Намессія, повернувся до Йорама, а сам Йорам охороняв Реммот ґалаадський (він і весь Ізраїль) з-перед Азаїла, царя Сирії.

15

and king Joram had returned to be healed in Jizreel of the wounds that the Syrians had given him, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your will, let not a fugitive escape out of the city to go to tell [it] in Jizreel.

(Цар Йорам повернувся, щоб в Єзраелі лікуватися від ран, якими поранили його сирійці, коли вони воювали проти нього з Азаїлом, царем Сирії). І сказав Ія: Якщо ваша душа зі мною, хай не вийде з міста жодний втікач, щоб піти і сповістити в Єзраелі.

And Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jizreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.

Ія сів на колісницю, відправився і спустився вниз до Єзраела, бо Йорам, цар Ізраїля, лікувався в Єзраелі від стріл, якими поранили його арамейці в Ремматі у війні з Азаїлем, царем Сирії, бо він сильний і військовий чоловік. І Охозія, цар Юди, прийшов, щоб побачити Йорама.

And the watchman stood on the tower in Jizreel, and saw Jehu's company as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?

Вартовий вийшов на вежу в Єзраелі й побачив пилюку від колісниці Ія, коли він їхав, і сказав: Я бачу пилюку! А Йорам сказав: Візьми вершника і пошли перед ними, і нехай запитає: Чи мир?

18

So there went one on horseback to meet him; and he said, Thus saith the king: Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told saying, The messenger came to them, and he does not return.

І вершник на коні вирушив їм назустріч, і сказав: Так говорить цар: Чи мир? А Ія відповів: Що тобі й мирові? Поверни за мною! І вартовий сповістив, повідомляючи: Гонець підійшов аж до них, та не повернувся!

19

And he sent out a second on horseback; and he came to them and said, Thus saith the king: Is it peace? And Jehu said, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

І він послав другого гінця на коні, і цей прибув до нього, і сказав: Так говорить цар: Чи мир? І сказав Ія: Що тобі й мирові? Поверни за мною!

20

And the watchman told saying, He came to them, and does not return. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously.

20

І вартовий сповістив, повідомляючи: Він підійшов аж до них, та не повернувся! А провідник віз Ію, сина Намессія, бо він поспішав.

21

Then Joram said, Make ready! And they made ready his chariot. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him in the plot of Naboth the Jizreelite.

І сказав Йорам: Запряжіть! І запряг колісницю. І Йорам, цар Ізраїля, і Охозія, цар Юди, кожний вирушив у своїй колісниці, вони виїхали назустріч Ієві й знайшли його на частині поля Навутея, єзраельця.

22

And it came to pass when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he said, What peace, so long as the fornications of thy mother Jezebel and her sorceries are so many?

І сталося, коли Йорам побачив Ію, то сказав: Чи мир, Іє? А Ія відповів: Який мир? Ще є розпуста твоєї матері Єзавелі та її численні чари!

23

Then Joram turned his hand, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, Treachery, Ahaziah!

23

Йорам повернув свої руки, щоб втекти, і сказав Охозії: Зрада, Охозіє!

24

And Jehu took his bow in his hand, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out through his heart; and he sank down in his chariot.

24

Та Ія взяв у свою руку лук й уразив Йорама між його плечима, і вийшла стріла через його серце, і той схилився на свої коліна.

25

And he said to Bidkar his captain, Take him up [and] cast him in the plot of the field of Naboth the Jizreelite. For remember how, when I and thou rode together after Ahab his father, that Jehovah laid this burden upon him:

І сказав Ія Вадекарові, своєму тристатові: Скинь його на частині поля Навутея, єзраельця. Адже пам’ятаємо — я і ти, коли слідуючи на колісницях за Ахавом, його батьком, Господь наклав на нього цей несправедливий прибуток, кажучи:

Certainly I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, saith Jehovah; and I will requite thee in this plot, saith Jehovah. And now, take [and] cast him into the plot, according to the word of Jehovah.

Хіба не кров Навутея і кров його синів Я вчора побачив, — говорить Господь, — тож віддам йому на цій частині поля, — говорить Господь. Тепер же, підібравши, скинь його на ційчастині — за Господнім словом!

27

When Ahaziah king of Judah saw [that], he fled by the way of the garden-house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in his chariot. It was on the ascent of Gur, which is by Jibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.

А Охозія, цар Юди, побачив і втік дорогою Ветанґана, і гнався за ним Ія, і сказав: І його! І уразив його в колісниці, коли підіймався до Ґаю, що є Євлаам, та він утік до Маґедона, і там помер.

28

And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulchre with his fathers in the city of David.

(And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab had Ahaziah begun to reign over Judah.)

The Murder of Jezebel

And Jehu came to Jizreel; and Jezebel heard of it, and she put paint to her eyes, and decked her head, and looked out at the window.

30

Ія прибув до Єзраела. Єзавель почула, розмалювала свої очі, прикрасила свою голову і вихилилася через вікно.

31

And when Jehu came in at the gate, she said, Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of his master?

31

Коли Ія входив у місто, вона сказала: Чи мир, Замвріє, убивце свого володаря?

32

And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And two or three chamberlains looked out to him.

32

А він підняв своє обличчя до вікна, побачив її і сказав: Хто ти? Спустися до мене. І два євнухи нахилилися до нього.

33

And he said, Throw her down! And they threw her down; and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses; and he trampled on her.

33

А він сказав: Скиньте її! І вони скинули її, і окропилася її кров’ю стіна та коні. І вони її потоптали.

34

And he came in, and ate and drank; and he said, Go, look, I pray you, after this cursed [woman], and bury her; for she is a king's daughter.

Ія ж увійшов, поїв, попив і сказав: Простежте за цією проклятою і поховайте її, адже вона є дочкою царя!

35

And they went to bury her; but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.

35

І пішли її поховати, та не знайшли з неї нічого іншого, хіба що череп, долоні рук і ноги,

36

And they came back and told him. And he said, This is the word of Jehovah, which he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite saying, In the plot of Jizreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel;

36

тож повернулися і сповістили йому. А він сказав: Слово Господа, яке промовив через свого раба Іллю, тесвітянина, проголошуючи: У частині Єзраела пси з’їдять тіло Єзавелі,

37

and the carcase of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the open field in the plot of Jizreel, so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.

37

і стане тіло Єзавелі, наче гній, на поверхні поля в частині Єзраела, щоб не сказали вони — це Єзавель!
