Saul's Overthrow and Death

And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

Филистимляне воевали с Израилем, и израильтяне бежали от них и падали сраженными на горе Гильбоа.

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.

Филистимляне нагнали Саула и его сыновей и убили его сыновей Ионафана, Авинадава и Малхи-Шуа.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him, and he was terrified by the archers.

Вокруг Саула разгорелась жестокая битва. Лучники нашли его и ранили.

Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.

— Обнажи меч и заколи меня, иначе эти необрезанные придут и станут глумиться надо мной.
Но его оруженосец не решился сделать это, потому что очень испугался. Тогда Саул взял свой собственный меч и бросился на него.

And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

Когда оруженосец увидел, что Саул мертв, он тоже бросился на свой меч и умер.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

Так погибли Саул и его три сына, и вместе с ними погиб весь его дом.

The Philistines Possess the Towns

And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Увидев, что войско разбежалось, а Саул и его сыновья погибли, все израильтяне, которые были в долине, оставили свои города и тоже бежали. А филистимляне пришли и заняли их.

And it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

На следующий день, когда филистимляне пришли грабить мертвых, они нашли Саула и его сыновей, павших на горе Гильбоа.

And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent [them] into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people.

Они обобрали его, отрубили ему голову, сняли с него оружие и послали вестников по всей филистимской земле, чтобы возвестить об этом своим идолам и народу.

And they put his armour in the house of their god, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

Jabesh-Gilead's Tribute to Saul

And when all they of Jabesh-Gilead heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

Когда весь галаадский город Иавеш услышал обо всем, что филистимляне сделали с Саулом,

all the valiant men arose, and took up the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth of Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

то все их храбрые воины отправились в путь, взяли тела Саула и его сыновей и перенесли их в Иавеш. Они погребли их кости под иавешским дубом и постились семь дней.

And Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah which he kept not, and also for having inquired of the spirit of Python, asking counsel of it;

Саул погиб, потому что нарушил верность Господу. Он не слушался Господнего слова; он обратился с вопросом к вызывательнице умерших,

and he asked not counsel of Jehovah; therefore he slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

а Господа не вопросил. Господь предал его смерти и передал его царство Давиду, сыну Иессея.
