Saul's Overthrow and Death

And the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on mount Gilboa.

Филистимці воювали проти Ізраїля, і ті втекли з-перед филистимців, і полягли ранені на горі Ґелвуї.

And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines smote Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.

А филистимці погналися за Саулом і за його синами, і Йонатана, Амінадава і Мелхісуя, синів Саула, филистимці вбили.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers came up with him, and he was terrified by the archers.

І бій став важкий для Саула, — його виявили лучники луками і стрілами, — він був поранений з луків.

Then said Saul to his armour-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armour-bearer would not; for he was much afraid. So Saul took the sword and fell on it.

І Саул сказав своєму зброєносцю: Витягни свій меч і проший мене ним, щоб не прийшли ці необрізані й не наглумилися наді мною! Та не захотів його зброєносець, бо дуже боявся. І Саул узяв меч, і впав на нього.

And when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

Його зброєносець побачив, що Саул помер, тож упав і він на свій меч, та й помер.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

Тож Саул і три його сини померли в той день, — увесь його дім разом помер.

The Philistines Possess the Towns

And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

І побачив кожний чоловік Ізраїля, який був у долині, що Ізраїль утік, і що Саул та його сини померли, тож вони покинули свої міста, і втекли. І прийшли филистимці, і поселилися в них.

And it came to pass the next day, that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gilboa.

І сталося на другий день, филистимці пішли забирати здобич з убитих і знайшли Саула та його синів, які полягли на горі Ґелвуї.

And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armour, and sent [them] into the land of the Philistines round about, to announce the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people.

Вони роздягли його, взяли його голову та його зброю і послали в землю филистимців довкола, щоб сповістити їхнім ідолам і народові.

And they put his armour in the house of their god, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

Його зброю вони поклали в домі їхнього бога, а його голову поклали в домі Даґона.

Jabesh-Gilead's Tribute to Saul

And when all they of Jabesh-Gilead heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

І почули всі, хто жив у Ґалааді про все, що филистимці зробили Саулові й Ізраїлеві.

all the valiant men arose, and took up the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the terebinth of Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

І піднявся з Ґалааду кожний сильний муж, і вони взяли тіло Саула та тіла його синів, принесли їх до Явіса, поховали їхні кості під дубом у Явісі й постили сім днів.

13

And Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah which he kept not, and also for having inquired of the spirit of Python, asking counsel of it;

Саул помер у своїх беззаконнях, якими згрішив проти Господа, за Господнім словом, тому що його не зберіг. Бо запитав Саул у ворожки, аби шукати відповіді, і відповів йому пророк Самуїл.

and he asked not counsel of Jehovah; therefore he slew him, and transferred the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.

Він не шукав Господа, і Господь убив його, а царство повернув Давидові, синові Єссея.
