  • Descendants of Judah

    The sons of Judah: Pherez, Hezron, and Carmi, and Hur, and Shobal.
  • Other Descendants of Judah

    The descendants of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
  • And Reaiah the son of Shobal begot Jahath; and Jahath begot Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zoreathites.
  • Shobal’s son Reaiah was the father of Jahath. Jahath was the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
  • And these [were of] the father of Etam: Jizreel, and Jishma, and Jidbash; and the name of their sister was Hazlelponi;
  • The descendants ofa Etam were Jezreel, Ishma, Idbash, their sister Hazzelelponi,
  • and Penuel the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah: these were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, [and] father of Bethlehem.
  • Penuel (the father ofb Gedor), and Ezer (the father of Hushah). These were the descendants of Hur (the firstborn of Ephrathah), the ancestor of Bethlehem.
  • And Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah And Naarah.
  • Ashhur (the father of Tekoa) had two wives, named Helah and Naarah.
  • And Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, and Hepher, and Temeni, and Ahashtari: these were the sons of Naarah.
  • Naarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari.
  • And the sons of Helah: Zereth, and Zohar, and Ethnan.

  • And Koz begot Anub, and Hazzobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.
  • and Koz, who became the ancestor of Anub, Zobebah, and all the families of Aharhel son of Harum.
  • The Prayer of Jabez

    And Jabez was more honoured than his brethren; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bore him with pain.
  • There was a man named Jabez who was more honorable than any of his brothers. His mother named him Jabezd because his birth had been so painful.
  • And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, Oh that thou wouldest richly bless me, and enlarge my border, and that thy hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God brought about what he had requested.
  • He was the one who prayed to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and expand my territory! Please be with me in all that I do, and keep me from all trouble and pain!” And God granted him his request.
  • More Descendants of Judah

    And Chelub the brother of Shuah begot Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
  • Kelub (the brother of Shuhah) was the father of Mehir. Mehir was the father of Eshton.
  • And Eshton begot Bethrapha, and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of the city of Nahash: these were the men of Rechah.
  • Eshton was the father of Beth-rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah. Tehinnah was the father of Ir-nahash. These were the descendants of Recah.
  • -- And the sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah; and the sons of Othniel: Hathath.
  • The sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah. Othniel’s sons were Hathath and Meonothai.e
  • And Meonothai begot Ophrah: and Seraiah begot Joab, the father of the valley of craftsmen; for they were craftsmen.
  • Meonothai was the father of Ophrah. Seraiah was the father of Joab, the founder of the Valley of Craftsmen,f so called because they were craftsmen.
  • -- And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and the sons of Elah, ... and Kenaz.
  • The sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah, and Naam. The son of Elah was Kenaz.
  • And the sons of Jehalleleel: Ziph And Ziphah, Tiria And Asareel.
  • The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.
  • -- And the sons of Ezra: Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon; and she conceived [and bore] Miriam, and Shammai, and Jishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
  • The sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. One of Mered’s wives becameg the mother of Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah (the father of Eshtemoa).
  • And his wife the Jewess bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh whom Mered took.
  • He married a woman from Judah, who became the mother of Jered (the father of Gedor), Heber (the father of Soco), and Jekuthiel (the father of Zanoah). Mered also married Bithia, a daughter of Pharaoh, and she bore him children.
  • And the sons of the wife of Hodijah, the sister of Naham: the father of Keilah the Garmite, And Eshtemoa the Maachathite.
  • Hodiah’s wife was the sister of Naham. One of her sons was the father of Keilah the Garmite, and another was the father of Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
  • And the sons of Shimon: Amnon And Rinnah, Ben-hanan And Tilon. And the sons of Jishi: Zoheth And Ben-Zoheth.
  • The sons of Shimon were Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-hanan, and Tilon.
    The descendants of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.
    Descendants of Judah’s Son Shelah

  • The Sons of Shelah

    The sons of Shelah the son of Judah: Er the father of Lechah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of byssus-workers, of the house of Ashbea,
  • Shelah was one of Judah’s sons. The descendants of Shelah were Er (the father of Lecah); Laadah (the father of Mareshah); the families of linen workers at Beth-ashbea;
  • and Jokim, and the men of Chozeba, and Joash, and Saraph, who ruled over Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And these are ancient things.
  • Jokim; the men of Cozeba; and Joash and Saraph, who ruled over Moab and Jashubi-lehem. These names all come from ancient records.
  • These were the potters, and those that abode among plantations and enclosures: there they dwelt with the king for his work.
  • They were the pottery makers who lived in Netaim and Gederah. They lived there and worked for the king.
    Descendants of Simeon

  • The Descendants and Cities of Simeon

    The sons of Simeon: Nemuel and Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, [and] Saul;
  • The sons of Simeon were Jemuel,h Jamin, Jarib, Zohar,i and Shaul.
  • Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
  • The descendants of Shaul were Shallum, Mibsam, and Mishma.
  • And the sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son;
  • The descendants of Mishma were Hammuel, Zaccur, and Shimei.
  • and Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters. And his brethren had not many sons; neither did all their family multiply like to the sons of Judah.
  • Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but none of his brothers had large families. So Simeon’s tribe never grew as large as the tribe of Judah.
  • And they abode at Beer-sheba, and Moladah, and Hazar-Shual,
  • They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual,
  • and at Bilhah, and at Ezem, and at Tolad,
  • Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad,
  • and at Bethuel, and at Hormah, and at Ziklag,

  • and at Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susim, and at Beth-biri, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David.
  • Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-biri, and Shaaraim. These towns were under their control until the time of King David.
  • And their villages were Etam and Ain, Rimmon and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities;
  • Their descendants also lived in Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Token, and Ashan — five towns
  • and all their villages that were round about these cities, as far as Baal. These were their habitations and their genealogical register.
  • and their surrounding villages as far away as Baalath.j This was their territory, and these names are listed in their genealogical records.
  • And Meshobab, and Jamlech, and Joshah the son of Amaziah,
  • Other descendants of Simeon included Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah son of Amaziah,
  • and Joel, and Jehu the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,
  • Joel, Jehu son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel,
  • and Elioenai, and Jaakobah, and Jeshohaiah, and Asaiah, and Adiel, and Jesimiel, and Benaiah,
  • Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,
  • and Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah:
  • and Ziza son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah.
  • these mentioned by name were princes in their families; and their fathers' houses increased greatly.
  • These were the names of some of the leaders of Simeon’s wealthy clans. Their families grew,
  • Their Conquest of Gedor

    And they went to the entrance of Gedor, as far as the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.
  • and they traveled to the region of Gerar,k in the east part of the valley, seeking pastureland for their flocks.
  • And they found fat and good pasture, and a land widely extended and quiet and fertile, for they who had dwelt there formerly were of Ham.
  • They found lush pastures there, and the land was spacious, quiet, and peaceful.
    Some of Ham’s descendants had been living in that region.
  • And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their stead; for there was pasture there for their flocks.
  • But during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah, these leaders of Simeon invaded the region and completely destroyedl the homes of the descendants of Ham and of the Meunites. No trace of them remains today. They killed everyone who lived there and took the land for themselves, because they wanted its good pastureland for their flocks.
  • And five hundred men of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to mount Seir, having at their head Pelatiah, and Neariah, and Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Jishi,
  • Five hundred of these invaders from the tribe of Simeon went to Mount Seir, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel — all sons of Ishi.
  • and they smote the rest of the Amalekites that had escaped; and they dwelt there unto this day.
  • They destroyed the few Amalekites who had survived, and they have lived there ever since.
