Shemaiah's Prophecy

And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

І Ровоам прибув у Єрусалим, і зібрав Юду та Веніаміна, сто вісімдесят тисяч молодців, які здатні вести війну, і почав воювати з Ізраїлем, щоб повернути царство Ровоамові.

But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

Та до Самея, Божого чоловіка, було промовлене слово Господнє:

Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

Скажи Ровоамові, синові Соломона, і всьому Юді та Веніамінові, проголошуючи:

Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

Так говорить Господь: Ви не підете і не воюватимете проти ваших братів! Нехай кожний повернеться до свого дому, бо від Мене сталася ця справа! І вони послухалися Господнього слова, і повернулися, щоб не йти на Єровоама.

Rehoboam Fortifies Judah

And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

Ровоам жив у Єрусалимі й збудував міста з мурами в Єдеї.

And he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

and Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;

and in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.

у кожному місті, — щити і списи, і дуже сильно укріпив їх. І були в нього Юда і Веніамін.

Priests and Levites Forsaken by Jeroboam

And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;

13

Священики і левіти, які були в усьому Ізраїлі, зібралися до нього з усіх околиць.

14

for the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;

14

А левіти залишили поселення їхнього спадку і пішли до Юди в Єрусалим тому, що Єровоам та його сини вигнали їх, щоб вони не служили Господу.

15

and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.

15

Оскільки він поставив собі священиків для високих місць, ідолів, безглуздь і телят, які зробив Єровоам,

16

And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.

16

і вигнав з-поміж племен Ізраїля тих, які віддали своє серце, аби шукати Господа, Бога Ізраїля. Тож вони прийшли в Єрусалим, щоб приносити жертву Господу, Богові їхніх батьків.

17

And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

17

І вони зміцнили царство Юди, і укріпили Ровоама, сина Соломона, на три роки, бо він ходив шляхами Давида і Соломона три роки.

18

Rehoboam's Family

And Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

Ровоам узяв собі за жінку Моллат, дочку Єрімута, сина Давида та Аваї, дочку Еліява, сина Єссея,

19

And she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

19

і вона народила йому синів — Яуса, Самарія і Рооллама.

20

And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

20

Після цього взяв собі Мааху, дочку Авессалома, і та народила йому Авія, Єттія, Зіза і Еммота.

21

And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

І Ровоам полюбив Мааху, дочку Авессалома, понад усіх своїх жінок і своїх наложниць, бо мав вісімнадцять жінок і тридцять наложниць. Тож він породив двадцять вісім синів і шістдесят дочок.

22

And Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for [he thought] to make him king.

Володарем Ровоам настановив Авію, сина Маахи, — проводирем між його братами, оскільки задумав поставити його царем.

23

And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired [for them] a multitude of wives.

І він став вищим понад усіх його синів у всіх околицях Юди і Веніаміна, і в укріплених містах, і забезпечив їх у великій кількості різноманітним продовольством, і бажав багато жінок.
