  • Temple Construction Begins

And Solomon began to build the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem on mount Moriah, where he appeared to David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  • Solomon Builds the Temple

Now Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where [a]the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan[b] the Jebusite.
  • And he began to build on the second of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.
  • And he began to build on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
  • Dimensions and Materials

And this was Solomon's foundation for the construction of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was sixty cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.
  • This is the foundation which Solomon laid for building the house of God: The length was sixty cubits (by cubits according to the former measure) and the width twenty cubits.
  • And the porch which was in front was twenty cubits in length, in front of the house broadways, and the height was a hundred and twenty; and he overlaid it within with pure gold.
  • And the vestibule that was in front of [c]the sanctuary was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the height was [d]one hundred and twenty. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.
  • And the greater house he boarded with cypress-wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set on it palm-trees and chains.
  • The larger [e]room he paneled with cypress which he overlaid with fine gold, and he carved palm trees and chainwork on it.
  • And he overlaid the house with precious stones for beauty; and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
  • And he decorated the house with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was gold from Parvaim.
  • And he covered the house, the beams, the threshold, and its walls, and its doors with gold, and engraved cherubim on the walls.
  • He also overlaid the house — the beams and doorposts, its walls and doors — with gold; and he carved cherubim on the walls.
  • And he made the house of the most holy place, the length of which was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and its breadth twenty cubits; and he covered it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.
  • And he made the Most Holy Place. Its length was according to the width of the house, twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits. He overlaid it with six hundred talents of fine gold.
  • And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he covered the upper chambers with gold.
  • The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold; and he overlaid the upper area with gold.
  • And in the house of the most holy place he made two cherubim of image work, and they overlaid them with gold.
  • In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim, fashioned by carving, and overlaid them with gold.
  • The Cherubim

And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long: one wing of five cubits touched the wall of the house; and the other wing of five cubits touched the wing of the other cherub.
  • The wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits in overall length: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, touching the wall of the room, and the other wing was five cubits, touching the wing of the other cherub;
  • And the wing of the other cherub of five cubits touched the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits joining the wing of the other cherub.
  • one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, touching the wall of the room, and the other wing also was five cubits, touching the wing of the other cherub.
  • The wings of these cherubim spread forth were twenty cubits; and they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.
  • The wings of these cherubim spanned twenty cubits overall. They stood on their feet, and they faced inward.
  • The Veil and Pillars

And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and byssus, and made cherubim upon it.
  • And he made the veil of blue, purple, crimson, and fine linen, and wove cherubim into it.
  • And before the house he made two pillars thirty-five cubits long; and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
  • Also he made in front of the [f]temple two pillars [g]thirty-five cubits [h]high, and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.
  • And he made chains [as] in the oracle, and he put them on the top of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.
  • He made wreaths of chainwork, as in the inner sanctuary, and put them on top of the pillars; and he made one hundred pomegranates, and put them on the wreaths of chainwork.
  • And he set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; and he called the name of that on the right Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.
  • Then he set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand and the other on the left; he called the name of the one on the right hand [i]Jachin, and the name of the one on the left [j]Boaz.
