Intermarriage with Neighboring Peoples

Now when these things were completed, the princes came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, [even] of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites;

После того, как мы закончили всё это, ко мне пришли вожди Израиля. Они сказали: "Ездра, народ Израиля не отделялся от других народов, живших вокруг нас. И священники и левиты тоже не отделялись. Народ Израиля был под влиянием мерзких поступков, которые совершались хананеями, хеттеями, ферезеями, иевусеями, аммонитянами, моавитянами, египтянами и аморреями.

for they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, and have mingled the holy seed with the peoples of the lands; and the hand of the princes and rulers has been chief in this unfaithfulness.

Израильтяне брали себе жён из народов, которые жили вокруг нас. Народ Израиля должен был быть особенным. Но теперь он смешался с другими народами, живущими вокруг нас. Вожди и важные начальники были первыми в этом грехе".

And when I heard this thing, I rent my mantle and my garment, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down overwhelmed.

Когда я услышал об этом, я разодрал свою одежду и плащ, рвал волосы на голове и на бороде своей, и сидел поражённый и опечаленный.

Then were assembled to me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the unfaithfulness of those that had been carried away; and I sat overwhelmed until the evening oblation.

Тогда все, кто уважал закон Божий, затряслись от страха. Они боялись, ибо народ Израиля, который вернулся из плена, не был предан Богу. Я был поражён и опечален. Я сидел там до вечернего жертвоприношения, и эти люди собрались вокруг меня.

Ezra's Prayer of Confession

And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation; and with my mantle and my garment rent, I fell on my knees, and spread out my hands to Jehovah my God,

Когда пришло время вечернего жертвоприношения, я встал. Мне было стыдно сидеть там. Моя нижняя и верхняя одежда были разодраны; я упал на колени и простёр руки к Господу, Богу моему.

and said: O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over [our] head, and our trespass is grown up to the heavens.

И я молился: "Боже мой, мне очень стыдно, я стыжусь смотреть на Тебя, потому что наши грехи стали выше головы, и вина наша достигла самых небес.

Since the days of our fathers, we have been in great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities we, our kings, our priests, have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

Мы виноваты во многих грехах со времён наших предков и до сих пор. За наши грехи Бог отдал нас, наших царей и наших священников иноземным царям, которые нападали на нас и уводили наших людей. Эти цари забирали наше богатство и позорили нас. Это и сегодня так.

And now for a little space there hath been favour from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.

Но теперь, наконец, Ты смилостивился над нами. Ты позволил некоторым из нас спастись из плена и прийти жить в это святое место. Ты, Бог, прояснил глаза наши, дал нам новую жизнь и освободил нас от рабства.

For we are bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us before the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

Да, мы были рабами, но Ты, Бог, не позволил нам быть рабами вечно. Ты сделал так, чтобы Персидские цари были милостивы к нам. Твой храм был разрушен, но Ты дал нам новую жизнь, чтобы мы могли снова построить Твой храм и восстановить его из развалин. Ты помог нам построить стену, чтобы защитить Иудею и Иерусалим.

And now, what shall we say, our God, after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,

Теперь, Боже, что мы можем сказать Тебе? Мы снова перестали подчиняться Твоим заповедям!

which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess [it], is an unclean land through the filthiness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations with which they have filled it from one end to another through their uncleanness.

Боже, через Твоих слуг, пророков, Ты дал нам эти заповеди. Ты говорил: "Земля, в которую вы идёте жить и которой будете владеть, погубленная земля. Она была погублена ужасными делами людей, которые жили там. Эти люди поступали мерзко повсюду на этой земле и своими грехами сделали землю нечистой.

Now therefore give not your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.

Итак, народ Израиля, не позволяйте вашим детям жениться и выходить замуж за их детей. Не соединяйтесь с этими людьми! Не желайте того, что они имеют! Подчиняйтесь Моим указаниям, и вы укрепитесь и будете наслаждаться благами земли. И тогда вы сможете хранить эту землю и передать её вашим детям".

And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities [deserve], and hast given us such deliverance as this,

Мы сами виноваты в несчастьях, которые случились с нами. Мы творили зло, и мы очень виноваты. Но Ты, Боже наш, дал нам наказание, которое меньше, чем мы заслужили. Ты даже позволил некоторым из нас спастись из плена.

should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples of these abominations? wouldest thou not be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor any to escape?

Мы знаем, что не должны нарушать Твои заповеди, мы не должны жениться и выходить замуж за тех, кто совершает мерзости. Боже, если мы и дальше будем жениться и выходить замуж за этих людей, мы знаем, что Ты уничтожишь нас! Тогда здесь не останется в живых ни одного человека из народа Израиля.

Jehovah, God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are a remnant that is escaped, as [it is] this day. Behold, we are before thee in our trespasses; for there is no standing before thee because of this.

Господи, Боже Израиля, Ты добр! Ты всё же оставил жить некоторых из нас. Да, мы виновны! И из-за нашей вины ни одному из нас не должно быть позволено стоять перед Тобой".
