Esther Plans a Banquet

And it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house. And the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the entrance to the house.

На третий день Есфирь надела свои царские одежды и стала во внутреннем дворе царского дома. Это место находилось напротив царского зала. Царь сидел на своём царском троне в зале, лицом к входу.

And it was so, when the king saw the queen Esther standing in the court, that she obtained grace in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand; and Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

Когда царь увидел царицу Есфирь во дворе, она угодила ему, и царь протянул к ней золотой скипетр, который держал в руке. Есфирь вошла в комнату, подошла к царю и коснулась конца золотого царского скипетра.

And the king said to her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom.

Тогда царь спросил: "Что тебя тревожит, царица Есфирь? О чём ты хочешь просить меня? Я дам тебе всё, о чём ты попросишь, даже половину моего царства".

And Esther said, If it seem good to the king, let the king and Haman come this day to the banquet that I have prepared for him.

Есфирь сказала: "Если это угодно царю, я приготовила пир для тебя и Амана. Прошу тебя, приходите сегодня на пир".

And the king said, Hasten Haman, that it may be done as Esther has said. And the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Тогда царь сказал: "Приведите скорее Амана, чтобы сделать, как просит Есфирь". И царь с Аманом пришли на пир, который приготовила для них Есфирь.

And the king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee; and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be done.

В то время, когда они пили вино, царь снова спросил Есфирь: "Есфирь, о чём ты хотела просить меня? Я дам тебе всё, что ты захочешь, даже половину моего царства".

And Esther answered and said, My petition and my request is,

Тогда Есфирь ответила: "Вот о чём я хотела просить тебя:

If I have found grace in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to-morrow according to the king's word.

если я нашла благоволение царя и если царю угодно исполнить мою просьбу, то пусть царь с Аманом придёт ко мне завтра. Я приготовлю ещё один пир для царя и Амана. Тогда я скажу мою просьбу".

Haman's Plot against Mordecai

And Haman went forth that day joyful and glad of heart; but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up nor moved for him, he was full of fury against Mordecai.

Аман ушёл из царского дома в тот день счастливый и в хорошем настроении. Но когда он увидел Мардохея у царских ворот, то очень на него рассердился. Аман был очень зол на него, потому что Мардохей не проявлял никакого почтения, когда Аман проходил мимо. Мардохей не боялся Амана, и это его злило.

But Haman controlled himself, and came home; and he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

Аман начал хвастаться тем, какой он богатый и как много у него сыновей. Он рассказывал им о том, как царь оказывает ему почести и как возвысил его над другими вождями.

And Haman said, Yea, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to-morrow also I am invited to her with the king.

Аман сказал: "Я единственный, кого царица Есфирь пригласила с царём на пир. Царица и на завтра пригласила меня прийти с царём.

Yet all this is of no avail to me so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.

Но всё это не радует меня. Я не могу быть по-настоящему счастлив, пока вижу еврея Мардохея сидящим у царских ворот".

Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends to him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the king that Mordecai may be hanged on it: then go in merrily with the king to the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

Тогда Зерешь, жена Амана, и все его друзья предложили: "Вели сделать столб, чтобы повесить на нём Мардохея. Пусть сделают его высотой в пятьдесят локтей! Утром скажи царю, чтобы повесили на нём Мардохея, и тогда иди с царём на пир и будь счастлив". Аману понравилось это предложение, и он приказал поставить висельный столб.
