Job Affirms his Integrity

And Job continued his parable and said,

1

І повів Йов дальш мудру мову свою й говорив:

2

[As] God liveth, who hath taken away my right, and the Almighty, who hath embittered my soul,

2

Вірно, як жив Бог, (хоч і не дав менї суду), і Вседержитель, (хоч і огірчив мою душу),

3

All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of +God is in my nostrils,

3

Що, покіль я ще дишу, й дух його в ніздрах моїх,

4

My lips shall not speak unrighteousness, nor my tongue utter deceit!

4

Не скажуть уста мої неправди, й льжи мій язик не промовить.

5

Be it far from me that I should justify you; till I die I will not remove my blamelessness from me.

5

Далеко се від мене, щоб я вас непохибними вважав; нї! поки тху мого, я праведностї моєї не зречуся.

6

My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart reproacheth [me] not one of my days.

Твердо при правдї стояв я й не попущусь її; совість моя не докорить менї по весь вік мій.

7

The State of the Godless

Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

7

Ворог мій буде менї, як безбожник, а той, що встає проти мене, як беззаконник.

8

For what is the hope of the ungodly, when [God] cutteth him off, when +God taketh away his soul?

Бо й яку може мати надїю лицемірний, коли візме, коли вирве йому Бог душу його?

9

Will God hear his cry when distress cometh upon him?

9

Чи ж вислухає Бог клик його, коли прийде на його нужда?

10

Doth he delight himself in the Almighty? will he at all times call upon +God?

10

Чи Вседержитель буде відрадою йому, чи можна буде йому призивати його кожного часу?

11

I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

11

Виявлю вам, що в руцї в Бога; не втаю, що у Вседержителя.

12

Behold, ye yourselves have all seen [it]; and why are ye thus altogether vain?

12

Бачили ви й самі; на що ж вам стілько молоти?

13

This is the portion of the wicked man with God, and the heritage of the violent, which they receive from the Almighty: --

13

От злюцї в Бога доля, і пай, який допадаєсь од Бога гнобителям:

14

If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword, and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread;

14

Як прибудуть йому сини, то хиба під меч, а потомки його не наситяться хлїбом.

15

Those that remain of him shall be buried by death, and his widows shall not weep.

15

Хто ж зістане по йому, того забере смерть у гріб, а й вдови по них голосити не будуть.

16

Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;

16

Хоч він надбає купи срібла, як піску, а одежі, наче глини, наскладає,

17

He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on; and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17

То він наскладає, а праведник буде одягатись, а сріблом невинний забагатїє.

18

He buildeth his house as the moth, and as a booth that a keeper maketh.

18

Строїть він дім собі, — то як червяк, і, як садовий сторож, робить собі будку;

19

He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

19

Лагає спати багатим, та таким не встане; отвирає очі, а він вже не той.

20

Terrors overtake him like waters; a whirlwind stealeth him away in the night.

20

Страх, мов потоп, прийде ва його неждано, й буря в ночі ухопить його.

21

The east wind carrieth him away and he is gone; and as a storm it hurleth him out of his place.

21

Вітер восточний підойме й понесе його, й летом помчить він поперед його;

22

And [God] shall cast upon him and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

22

Напре бо на його й не пощадить, хоч як би він змагався втечи від його.

23

[Men] shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

23

Тільки руками сплеснуть про його, й засвищуть про його над місцем його.
