Job Affirms his Integrity

And Job continued his parable and said,

1

А ще додавши, Йов сказав у вступі:

2

[As] God liveth, who hath taken away my right, and the Almighty, who hath embittered my soul,

2

Нехай живе Господь, Який так мені присудив, і Вседержитель, Який засмучує мою душу!

3

All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of +God is in my nostrils,

3

А поки ще в мені дихання є, Божий Дух, що є в моїх ніздрях,

4

My lips shall not speak unrighteousness, nor my tongue utter deceit!

4

мої губи не промовлятимуть беззаконне, і моя душа не повчатиметься неправедного.

5

Be it far from me that I should justify you; till I die I will not remove my blamelessness from me.

5

Хай не станеться, щоб я назвав вас праведними, доки не помру. Адже не відійду від моєї невинності,

My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart reproacheth [me] not one of my days.

6

і, дотримуючись праведності, себе не віддам. Бо я не усвідомлюю, що зробив невідповідне.

The State of the Godless

Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.

7

Ні, але хай мої вороги будуть, як руїна безбожних, і ті, хто повстав проти мене, — наче погибель безбожних.

8

For what is the hope of the ungodly, when [God] cutteth him off, when +God taketh away his soul?

8

Бо яка є надія в безбожного, чого він тримається? Чи врятується, надіючись на Господа?

9

Will God hear his cry when distress cometh upon him?

9

Чи Господь вислухає його молитву? Хіба, коли надійде на нього скрута,

10

Doth he delight himself in the Almighty? will he at all times call upon +God?

10

чи матиме перед Ним якусь сміливість? Або коли покличе, то чи Він вислухає його?

11

I will teach you concerning the hand of God; what is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

11

Але я сповіщу вам, що є в Господній руці. Про те, що є у Вседержителя, не обманю.

12

Behold, ye yourselves have all seen [it]; and why are ye thus altogether vain?

12

Ось усі знаєте, що додаєте марне до марного.

13

This is the portion of the wicked man with God, and the heritage of the violent, which they receive from the Almighty: --

13

Це частина безбожного чоловіка в Господа, а здобуток сильних прийде на них від Вседержителя.

14

If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword, and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread;

14

Якщо ж його сини стануть численні, то вони будуть на вигублення. Якщо ж і перетворяться на мужів, то жебратимуть.

15

Those that remain of him shall be buried by death, and his widows shall not weep.

15

Ті, які залишаться після нього, смертю закінчать життя, а над їхніми вдовами ніхто не змилосердиться.

16

Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;

16

Якщо назбирає срібла, наче землі, і наготує золота, подібно до глини, —

17

He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on; and the innocent shall divide the silver.

17

це все здобудуть праведні, і його маєток праведні заберуть.

18

He buildeth his house as the moth, and as a booth that a keeper maketh.

18

Його дім відійшов, наче молі й немов павутина.

19

He lieth down rich, but will do so no more; he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

19

Багатий, заснувши, не продовжуватиме, відкрив він свої очі — і його немає.

20

Terrors overtake him like waters; a whirlwind stealeth him away in the night.

20

Болі його спіткали, наче вода, і вночі забрала його темрява.

21

The east wind carrieth him away and he is gone; and as a storm it hurleth him out of his place.

21

Його забере палюча спека, відійде і вигубить його з його місця.

22

And [God] shall cast upon him and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.

22

І накине біду на нього, та не пощадить. З його руки неодмінно втікатиме [1].

23

[Men] shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

23

Заплеще проти них своїми руками і сичанням прожене його з його місця.
