Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • The Earth's Treasures

    Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold which they refine;
  • Job’s Discourse on Wisdom

    “Surely there is a mine for silver,
    And a place where gold is refined.
  • Iron is taken out of the dust, and copper is molten out of the stone.
  • Iron is taken from the [a]earth,
    And copper is smelted from ore.
  • [Man] putteth an end to the darkness, and exploreth to the utmost limit, the stones of darkness and of the shadow of death.
  • Man puts an end to darkness,
    And searches every recess
    For ore in the darkness and the shadow of death.
  • He openeth a shaft far from the inhabitants [of the earth]: forgotten of the foot, they hang suspended; away below men they hover.
  • He breaks open a shaft away from people;
    In places forgotten by feet
    They hang far away from men;
    They swing to and fro.
  • As for the earth, out of it cometh bread, and underneath it is turned up as by fire;
  • As for the earth, from it comes bread,
    But underneath it is turned up as by fire;
  • The stones of it are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
  • Its stones are the source of sapphires,
    And it contains gold dust.
  • It is a path no bird of prey knoweth, and the vulture's eye hath not seen it;
  • That path no bird knows,
    Nor has the falcon’s eye seen it.
  • The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed over it.
  • The [b]proud lions have not trodden it,
    Nor has the fierce lion passed over it.
  • [Man] putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock, he overturneth the mountains by the root.
  • He puts his hand on the flint;
    He overturns the mountains [c]at the roots.
  • He cutteth out channels in the rocks, and his eye seeth every precious thing.
  • He cuts out channels in the rocks,
    And his eye sees every precious thing.
  • He bindeth the streams that they drip not, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
  • He dams up the streams from trickling;
    What is hidden he brings forth to light.
  • Wisdom an Excellent Gift of God

    But wisdom, where shall it be found? and where is the place of understanding?
  • “But where can wisdom be found?
    And where is the place of understanding?
  • Man knoweth not the value thereof; and it is not found in the land of the living.
  • Man does not know its value,
    Nor is it found in the land of the living.
  • The deep saith, It is not in me; and the sea saith, It is not with me.
  • The deep says, ‘It is not in me’;
    And the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
  • Choice gold cannot be given for it, nor silver be weighed for its price.
  • It cannot be purchased for gold,
    Nor can silver be weighed for its price.
  • It is not set in the balance with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, and the sapphire.
  • It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,
    In precious onyx or sapphire.
  • Gold and glass cannot be compared to it, nor vessels of fine gold be its exchange.
  • Neither gold nor crystal can equal it,
    Nor can it be exchanged for [d]jewelry of fine gold.
  • Corals and crystal are no more remembered; yea, the acquisition of wisdom is above rubies.
  • No mention shall be made of [e]coral or quartz,
    For the price of wisdom is above rubies.
  • The topaz of Ethiopia shall not be compared to it, neither shall it be set in the balance with pure gold.
  • The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it,
    Nor can it be valued in pure gold.
  • Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
  • “From where then does wisdom come?
    And where is the place of understanding?
  • For it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and concealed from the fowl of the heavens.
  • It is hidden from the eyes of all living,
    And concealed from the birds of the [f]air.
  • Destruction and death say, We have heard its report with our ears.
  • Destruction[g] and Death say,
    ‘We have heard a report about it with our ears.’
  • God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth its place:
  • God understands its way,
    And He knows its place.
  • For he looketh to the ends of the earth, he seeth under the whole heaven.
  • For He looks to the ends of the earth,
    And sees under the whole heavens,
  • In making a weight for the wind, and meting out the waters by measure,
  • To establish a weight for the wind,
    And apportion the waters by measure.
  • In appointing a statute for the rain, and a way for the thunder's flash:
  • When He made a law for the rain,
    And a path for the thunderbolt,
  • Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out;
  • Then He saw [h]wisdom and declared it;
    He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out.
  • And unto man he said, Lo, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
  • And to man He said,
    ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom,
    And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”
