Job's Former Blessings
And Job continued his parable and said,
And Job continued his parable and said,
Продовжуючи далі, Йов сказав у вступі:
Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when +God preserved me;
Хто мене поставить, як у місяці попередніх днів, в які мене оберігав Бог?
When his lamp shone over my head, [and] by his light I walked through darkness;
Так, як тоді, коли Його світильник світив над моєю головою, коли я ходив при Його світлі в темряві.
As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret counsel of +God was over my tent,
Коли я впевнено ходив дорогами, коли Бог відвідував мій дім.
When the Almighty was yet with me, my young men round about me;
Коли я був дуже плідним, а навколо мене були діти.
When my steps were bathed in milk, and the rock poured out beside me rivers of oil! ...
Коли мої дороги обливалися маслом, а мої гори плили молоком.
When I went out to the gate by the city, when I prepared my seat on the broadway,
Коли я виходив вранці в місті, то на площах ставили моє крісло.
The young men saw me, and hid themselves; and the aged arose [and] stood up;
Молодці, бачачи мене, ховалися, а всі старці вставали.
Princes refrained from talking, and laid the hand on their mouth;
Вельможі ж переставали говорити, поклавши палець на уста.
The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue cleaved to their palate.
Ті ж, хто слухав, мене блаженним називали, а їхній язик прилипав до їхнього горла,
When the ear heard [me], then it blessed me, and when the eye saw [me], it gave witness to me;
бо вухо почуло і назвало блаженним мене, а око, бачачи мене, ухилялося.
For I delivered the afflicted that cried, and the fatherless who had no helper.
Адже я спасав бідного з руки сильного, і я допомагав сироті, в якого не було помічника.
The blessing of him that was perishing came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
Нехай на мене прийде благословення того, хто гине, а уста вдови мене благословили.
I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was as a mantle and a turban.
Я ж одягався в праведність, і наряджався в суд, наче в подвійний одяг.
I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame;
На око був я сліпий, а на ногу — кульгавий, —
I was a father to the needy, and the cause which I knew not I searched out;
я був батьком для немічних, я дослідив боротьбу, якої я не бачив.
And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
Я трощив челюсті безбожних, я виривав грабунок з-посеред їхніх зубів.
And I said, I shall die in my nest, and multiply my days as the sand;
Я ж сказав: Мій вік старіється, наче стовбур фінікового дерева, я проживу довгий час.
My root shall be spread out to the waters, and the dew will lie all night on my branch;
Мій корінь розкрився біля води, і роса поселиться в моїх жнивах.
My glory shall be fresh in me, and my bow be renewed in my hand.
Слава моя марна зі мною, і мій лук у Його руці йде.
Unto me they listened, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel:
Мене чули ті, які слухали, і замовкали на мою раду.
After my words they spoke not again, and my speech dropped upon them;
А до моєї мови не додавали, раді ж були, коли я до них говорив.
And they waited for me as for the rain, and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
Наче спрагла земля, що очікувала дощу, так вони чекали на мої слова.
[If] I laughed on them, they believed [it] not; and they troubled not the serenity of my countenance.
Якщо засміюся до них, не повірять, і світло мого обличчя не занепадало.
