Wilt thou put a rush-rope into his nose, and pierce his jaw with a spike?
Ты можешь ли продеть верёвку в ноздри его и проколоть его челюсть иглой?
Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak softly unto thee?
Будет ли он молить тебя о свободе и говорить с тобою кротко?
Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him as a bondman for ever?
Пообещает ли Левиафан тебе служить вовеки?
Wilt thou play with him as with a bird, and wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
Будешь ли ты, словно с птицей, с ним забавляться, будешь ли связывать, чтобы служанки твои с ним играли?
Shall partners make traffic of him, will they divide him among merchants?
Купят ли у тебя его рыбаки, разрежут ли на куски и продадут ли его купцам?
Wilt thou fill his skin with darts, and his head with fish-spears?
Можешь ли ты бросить копьё в его голову, можешь ли кожу его пронзить?
Lay thy hand upon him; remember the battle, -- do no more!
Если, Иов, ты когда-нибудь руку положишь на Левиафана, то впредь ты не сделаешь этого. Только подумай — какая бы была это битва.
Lo, hope as to him is belied: is not one cast down even at the sight of him?
Если ты думаешь, что победишь Левиафана, забудь, Иов, — нет никакой надежды, ты даже его вида устрашишься.
None is so bold as to stir him up; and who is he that will stand before me?
Ни в ком нет смелости такой, чтоб разбудить его и рассердить, как и никто против Меня восстать не может.
Who hath first given to me, that I should repay [him]? [Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
Я ничего не должен никому, под небом всё лишь Мне принадлежит.
I will not be silent as to his parts, the story of his power, and the beauty of his structure.
Я о ногах Левиафана скажу тебе, Иов, о силе их и красоте.
Who can uncover the surface of his garment? who can come within his double jaws?
Никто пробить его не может шкуру — она как щит.
Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
Никто его не в состоянии заставить рот отворить — людей пугают его зубы.
The rows of his shields are a pride, shut up together [as with] a close seal.
Щитки рядами на его спине друг к другу припечатаны надёжно.
One is so near to another that no air can come between them;
Они плотны настолько, что и воздух между ними не проходит.
They are joined each to its fellow; they stick together, and cannot be sundered.
Они друг с другом соединены так крепко, что никто разъять не может.
His sneezings flash light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Сверкают молнии, когда чихает он, глаза его как свет зари.
Out of his mouth go forth flames; sparks of fire leap out:
Из его пасти рвётся пламя, сыплются искры.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a boiling pot and cauldron.
Дым из ноздрей его валит, как будто из-под кипящего котла.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.
Его дыханье разжигает угли, и пламя рвётся изо рта.
In his neck lodgeth strength, and terror danceth before him.
Могуча его шея, люди бегут в испуге от него.
The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are fused upon him, they cannot be moved.
На его коже нет нежных мест, она железа твёрже.
His heart is firm as a stone, yea, firm as the nether [millstone].
Сердце его твёрже, чем жернов мельничный, он не знаком со страхом.
When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: they are beside themselves with consternation.
Когда Левиафан встаёт и бьёт хвостом, бегут все храбрецы.
If any reach him with a sword, it cannot hold; neither spear, nor dart, nor harpoon.
Отскакивают от него мечи, отскакивают дротики и копья. Оружие ему вреда не причиняет.
He esteemeth iron as straw, bronze as rotten wood.
Железо он разрывает, как солому, и бронза для него не крепче дерева.
The arrow will not make him flee; slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
От стрел не убегает он, и камни отскакивают, превращаются в солому.
Clubs are counted as stubble; he laugheth at the shaking of a javelin.
Удар булавы для него — прикосновение соломинки, он смеётся, когда в него летят копья.
His under parts are sharp potsherds: he spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire.
Кожа на его брюхе, словно осколки, он следы, словно плуг, оставляет в земле.
He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment;
Он перемешивает воду, словно кипящий котёл, он пузыри пускает, словно масло кипит.
He maketh the path to shine after him: one would think the deep to be hoary.
Когда плывёт он, оставляет за собой седую пену.
Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
Нет на земле зверя, подобного Левиафану, — он единственный, кто сотворён без страха.
