Eliphaz Continues

Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?

1

Если хочешь, зови, только кто ответит?
Кого из святых позовешь на помощь?

2

For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.

Гнев погубит глупого,
а зависть убьет простака.

3

I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

Я видел сам, как глупец укоренился,
но нежданно его дом был проклят.

4

His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:

У детей его нет защитника,
их бьют в суде, но некому их спасти.

5

Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.

Голодный ест его урожай,
и даже то, что растет среди терна;
а жаждущий уносит его добро.

For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

Несчастье не появляется из земли,
и беда не вырастает на поле,

7

For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.

но человек рожден для несчастий,
как искры — чтобы улетать ввысь.

But as for me I will seek unto God, and unto God commit my cause;

Что до меня, то я бы воззвал к Богу,
Богу бы доверил свое дело.

Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;

Он творит великое и непостижимое,
бессчетные чудеса.

10

Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;

и орошает поля;

Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.

Он возвышает униженных,
и возносятся плачущие к спасению.

He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.

Он разрушает замыслы хитрецов,
чтобы не было успеха их рукам,

He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:

Он ловит мудрых на их же хитрость,
и замыслы коварных рушатся.

14

They meet with darkness in a the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.

В дневное время мрак покрывает их;
и в полдень они идут, как ночью, на ощупь.

15

And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

15

Он спасает бедного от меча их уст;
Он спасает его от руки могучих.

16

So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.

Итак, есть надежда у нищего,
и неправда сомкнет уста свои.

17

Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.

Как блажен тот, кого вразумляет Бог;
не презирай наставления Всемогущего.10

18

For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

18

Он ранит, но Сам перевяжет;
Он поражает, но Его же рука исцеляет.

19

He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

19

От шести несчастий тебя избавит,
и седьмая беда тебя не коснется.

20

In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.

20

В голод избавит тебя от смерти,
в сражении — от удара меча.

21

Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

21

Ты будешь укрыт от бича языка
и не будешь бояться прихода беды.

22

At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.

22

Над бедой и голодом посмеешься
и не будешь бояться диких зверей.

23

For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

23

Ты будешь в союзе с камнями на поле,11
и полевые звери будут в мире с тобой.

24

And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.

24

Ты узнаешь, что шатер твой в безопасности,
осмотришь владения свои — ничего не пропало.

25

And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.

25

Ты узнаешь, что твое потомство многочисленно,
и потомков твоих, как травы на земле.

26

Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.

26

Ты сойдешь в могилу достигнув зрелости,
словно сноп на гумно в должный срок.

27

Behold this, we have searched it out, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thyself.

27
