Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
Call, I pray thee! Is there any that answereth thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
Ану клич, — чи є хто, щоб тобі відповів? І до ко́го з святих ти вдаси́ся?
For vexation killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the simple.
Бо гнів побиває безглу́здого, а за́здрощі смерть завдаю́ть нерозумному!
I myself saw the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
Я бачив безумного, я́к він розсівся, — та зараз оселя його спорохня́віла.
His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, and there is no deliverer:
Від спасі́ння далекі сини його, вони без рятунку поча́влені бу́дуть у брамі!
Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh even out of the thorns; and the snare gapeth for his substance.
Його жни́во голодний поїсть, і з-між те́рну його забере́, — і спра́гнені ось поковта́ють маєток його!
For evil cometh not forth from the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
Бо нещастя вихо́дить не з по́роху, а горе росте не з землі, —
For man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.
бо люди́на народжується на стражда́ння, як іскри, щоб уго́ру летіти.
But as for me I will seek unto God, and unto God commit my cause;
А я б удава́вся до Бога, і на Бога б поклав свою справу, —
Who doeth great things and unsearchable, marvellous things without number;
Він чинить велике та недосліди́ме, предивне, якому немає числа,
Who giveth rain on the face of the earth, and sendeth waters on the face of the fields;
бо Він дає дощ на пове́рхню землі, і на поля́ посилає Він воду,
Setting up on high those that are low; and mourners are exalted to prosperity.
щоб поста́вить низьки́х на високе, і зміцни́ти спасі́ння засмучених.
He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, and their hands carry not out the enterprise.
Він розві́ює за́думи хитрих, і не виконують плану їх ру́ки,
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong:
Він мудрих лука́вством їх ло́вить, і рада круті́йська марно́ю стає, —
They meet with darkness in a the daytime, and grope at midday as in the night.
вдень знахо́дять вони темноту́, а в по́лудень ма́цають, мов уночі!
And he saveth the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.
І Він від меча урято́вує бідного, а з міцно́ї руки — бідаря́,
So the poor hath what he hopeth for, and unrighteousness stoppeth her mouth.
і стає́ться надія нужде́нному, і замкнула уста́ свої кривда!
Behold, happy is the man whom +God correcteth; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.
Тож блаженна люди́на, яку Бог карта́є, і ти не цурайсь Всемогу́тнього кари:
For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Бо Він рану завда́сть — і перев'я́же, Він ламає — й виго́юють руки Його!
He will deliver thee in six troubles, and in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
В шістьох лихах спаса́є тебе, а в сімох не діткне́ тебе зло:
In famine he will redeem thee from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
Викупля́є тебе Він від смерти за голоду, а в бою́ — з рук меча.
Thou shalt be hidden from the scourge of the tongue; and thou shalt not be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
Як бич язика́ запанує, сховаєшся ти, і не будеш боятись руїни, як при́йде вона.
At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh, and of the beasts of the earth thou shalt not be afraid.
З насилля та з голоду бу́деш сміятись, а земно́ї звіри́ни не бійся.
For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
Бо з камі́нням на полі є в тебе умова, і звір польови́й прими́рився з тобою.
And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou wilt survey thy fold, and miss nothing.
І дові́даєшся, що наме́т твій спокійний, і перегля́неш домі́вку свою́, — і не зна́йдеш у ній недоста́тку.
And thou shalt know that thy seed is numerous, and thine offspring as the herb of the earth.
І довідаєшся, що числе́нне насіння твоє, а наща́дки твої — як трава на землі!
Thou shalt come to the grave in a ripe age, as a shock of corn is brought in in its season.
І в дозрілому ві́ці до гробу ти зі́йдеш, як збіжжя доспі́ле ввіхо́дить до клуні за ча́су свого!
