Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • In My Distress, I Cried to the Lord

    {A Song of degrees.} In my trouble I called unto Jehovah, and he answered me.
  • A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.

    I took my troubles to the LORD;
    I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.
  • Jehovah, deliver my soul from the lying lip, from the deceitful tongue.
  • Rescue me, O LORD, from liars
    and from all deceitful people.
  • What shall be given unto thee, what shall be added unto thee, thou deceitful tongue?
  • O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you?
    How will he increase your punishment?
  • Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with burning coals of broom-wood.
  • You will be pierced with sharp arrows
    and burned with glowing coals.
  • Woe is me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar!
  • How I suffer in far-off Meshech.
    It pains me to live in distant Kedar.
  • My soul hath long dwelt with them that hate peace.
  • I am tired of living
    among people who hate peace.
  • I [am for] peace; but when I speak, *they* [are] for war.
  • I search for peace;
    but when I speak of peace, they want war!
