Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Deliver Me, O Lord, From the Evil Man

    {To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Free me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:
  • For the choir director: A psalm of David.

    O LORD, rescue me from evil people.
    Protect me from those who are violent,
  • Who devise mischiefs in [their] heart; every day are they banded together for war.
  • those who plot evil in their hearts
    and stir up trouble all day long.
  • They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
  • Their tongues sting like a snake;
    the venom of a viper drips from their lips.
    Interlude
  • Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked [man], preserve me from the violent man, who devise to overthrow my steps.
  • O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked.
    Protect me from those who are violent,
    for they are plotting against me.
  • The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way-side; they have set traps for me. Selah.
  • The proud have set a trap to catch me;
    they have stretched out a net;
    they have placed traps all along the way.
    Interlude
  • I have said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: give ear, O Jehovah, to the voice of my supplications.
  • I said to the LORD, “You are my God!”
    Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!
  • Jehovah, the Lord, is the strength of my salvation: thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.
  • O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me,
    you protected me on the day of battle.
  • Grant not, O Jehovah, the desire of the wicked; further not his device: they would exalt themselves. Selah.
  • LORD, do not let evil people have their way.
    Do not let their evil schemes succeed,
    or they will become proud.
    Interlude
  • [As for] the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
  • Let my enemies be destroyed
    by the very evil they have planned for me.
  • Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep waters, that they rise not up again.
  • Let burning coals fall down on their heads.
    Let them be thrown into the fire
    or into watery pits from which they can’t escape.
  • Let not the man of [evil] tongue be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the man of violence to [his] ruin.
  • Don’t let liars prosper here in our land.
    Cause great disasters to fall on the violent.
  • I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted one, the right of the needy.
  • But I know the LORD will help those they persecute;
    he will give justice to the poor.
  • Yea, the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
  • Surely righteous people are praising your name;
    the godly will live in your presence.
