Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Hear, O Lord, My Righteous Plee

{A Prayer of David.} Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry; give ear unto my prayer, which is not out of feigned lips.
  • A prayer of David.

O LORD, hear my plea for justice.
Listen to my cry for help.
    Pay attention to my prayer,
for it comes from honest lips.
  • Let my judgment come forth from thy presence, let thine eyes regard equity.
  • Declare me innocent,
for you see those who do right.
  • Thou hast proved my heart, thou hast visited me by night; thou hast tried me, thou hast found nothing: my thought goeth not beyond my word.
  • You have tested my thoughts and examined my heart in the night.
You have scrutinized me and found nothing wrong.
I am determined not to sin in what I say.
  • Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept from the paths of the violent [man].
  • I have followed your commands,
which keep me from following cruel and evil people.
  • When thou holdest my goings in thy paths, my footsteps slip not.
  • My steps have stayed on your path;
I have not wavered from following you.
  • I have called upon thee, for thou answerest me, O God. Incline thine ear unto me, hear my speech.
  • I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God.
Bend down and listen as I pray.
  • Shew wondrously thy loving-kindnesses, O thou that savest by thy right hand them that trust [in thee] from those that rise up [against them].
  • Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.
By your mighty power you rescue
those who seek refuge from their enemies.
  • Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
  • Guard me as you would guard your own eyes.a
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
  • From the wicked that destroy me, my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
  • Protect me from wicked people who attack me,
from murderous enemies who surround me.
  • They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly.
  • They are without pity.
    Listen to their boasting!
  • They have now encompassed us in our steps; their eyes have they set, bowing down to the earth.
  • They track me down and surround me,
watching for the chance to throw me to the ground.
  • He is like a lion that is greedy of its prey, and as a young lion lurking in secret places.
  • They are like hungry lions, eager to tear me apart —
like young lions hiding in ambush.
  • Arise, Jehovah, anticipate him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, thy sword;
  • Arise, O LORD!
Stand against them, and bring them to their knees!
Rescue me from the wicked with your sword!
  • From men [who are] thy hand, O Jehovah, from men of this age: their portion is in [this] life, and their belly thou fillest with thy hid [treasure]; they have their fill of sons, and leave the rest of their [substance] to their children.
  • By the power of your hand, O LORD,
destroy those who look to this world for their reward.
But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones.
    May their children have plenty,
leaving an inheritance for their descendants.
  • As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
  • Because I am righteous, I will see you.
When I awake, I will see you face to face and be satisfied.
