Contend with Those who Contend with Me

{[A Psalm] of David.} Strive, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me; fight against them that fight against me:

1

Давидова. Суди, Господи, тих, що зобіжають мене, побори тих, що йдуть боєм на мене.

2

Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help;

2

Возьми щит і зброю, і стань до помочі менї!

3

And draw out the spear, and stop [the way] against my pursuers: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

3

Вийми меча, і загороди дорогу перед напастником моїм; скажи душі моїй: я твоє спасеннє!

4

Let them be put to shame and confounded that seek after my life; let them be turned backward and brought to confusion that devise my hurt:

Нехай осоромляться ті, що наважили на життє моє; нехай відступлять назад ті, що задумали зло проти мене!

5

Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of Jehovah drive [them] away;

5

Нехай вони будуть, як полова перед вітром, і ангел Господнїй нехай прожене їх.

6

Let their way be dark and slippery, and let the angel of Jehovah pursue them.

Дорога їх нехай буде темна й ховзка, і ангел Господнїй нехай на здогін наступає на них.

7

For without cause have they hidden for me their net [in] a pit; without cause they have digged [it] for my soul.

7

Без причини бо заставили тайно сїти свої на мене, без вини викопали яму для душі моєї.

8

Let destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net which he hath hidden catch himself: for destruction let him fall therein.

Нехай погибель спогонить його, щоб і не стямивсь, коли, — і сїтка його, котру заставив тайно, нехай зловить його; нехай він впаде до неї на погибель.

9

And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah; it shall rejoice in his salvation.

9

А душа моя зрадується в Господї, і звеселиться від його спасення!

10

All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee, who deliverest the afflicted from one stronger than he, yea, the afflicted and the needy from him that spoileth him!

10

Всї костї мої скажуть: Господи! Хто рівня тобі? Тобі, що вирятував бідного від того, хто сильнїйший як він; мізерного і бідолашного від грабителя його!

11

Unrighteous witnesses rise up; they lay to my charge things which I know not.

11

Встають несправедливі сьвідки, допитують в мене, про що я не знаю.

12

They reward me evil for good, [to] the bereavement of my soul.

12

Добро віддячують менї злом; осиротїла душа моя.

13

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I chastened my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom:

А я, коли вони нездужали, надягав волосїнну плахту, смиряв постом душу і молитва моя верталась до грудї моєї;

14

I behaved myself as though [he had been] a friend, a brother to me; I bowed down in sadness, as one that mourneth [for] a mother.

14

Як для друга або брата, так я побивався; як за матїрю падкуючи, так я в журбі хилився.

15

But at my halting they rejoiced, and gathered together: the slanderers gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not; they did tear [me], and ceased not:

15

Коли ж я кульгаю, вони втїшаються, зібравшись; злоріки зібрались проти мене, і я не знав про них; вони озьвірились на мене, і нема їм впину.

16

With profane jesters for bread, they have gnashed their teeth against me.

16

Вкупі з мерзенними брехунами скреготали вони зубами.

17

Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my only one from the young lions.

17

Господи, як довго будеш придивлятись? Верни душу мою з спустошення їх, від левчуків одинокую мою!

18

I will give thee thanks in the great congregation; I will praise thee among much people.

18

Буду прославляти тебе перед великим збором, величати проміж громадним людом.

19

Let not them that are wrongfully mine enemies rejoice over me; let them not wink with the eye that hate me without cause.

19

Не допусти, щоб втїшались надо мною ті, що ворогують на мене без причини, щоб прижмурювали очі ті, що ненавидять мене безвинно.

20

For they speak not peace; and they devise deceitful words against the quiet in the land.

20

Бо не про супокій говорять вони; і проти тихих в країнї зрада в них на думцї.

21

And they opened their mouth wide against me; they said, Aha! aha! our eye hath seen [it].

21

І проти мене роззявили вони пельки свої, покликуючи: Ого! Ого! видїли очі наші!

22

Thou hast seen [it], Jehovah: keep not silence; O Lord, be not far from me.

22

Ти бачив, Господи, не мовчи! Господи, будь недалеко від мене!

23

Stir up thyself, and awake for my right, for my cause, my God and Lord!

23

Встань, і спогадай правду мою, Господи, Боже мій! Явись на правуваннє моє!

24

Judge me, Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.

24

Признай менї правду по справедливостї твоїй, Господи, Боже мій! Не дай їм втїшатись надо мною.

25

Let them not say in their heart, Aha! so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

25

Нехай не скажуть в серцї своїм: От, того й ми бажали! Не дай їм сказати: ми його заїли!

26

Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine adversity; let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

26

Нехай повстидаються і осоромляться всї, хто втїшається з мого нещастя! Нехай окриються ганьбою і соромом ті, що вихваляються проти мене.

27

Let them exult and rejoice that delight in my righteousness; and let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified, who delighteth in the prosperity of his servant.

27

Нехай радуються і веселяться ті, що любуються правдою моєю, і най завсїди кажуть: Великий Господь, що любується спокоєм слуги свого.

28

And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness, [and] of thy praise, all the day.

28

І язик мій звіщати ме про справедливість твою, про хвалу твою цїлий день.
