Darby Bible Translation

English Standard Version

  • I Waited Patiently for the Lord

    {To the chief Musician. Of David. A Psalm.} I waited patiently for Jehovah; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
  • My Help and My Deliverer

    To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

    I waited patiently for the Lord;
    he inclined to me and heard my cry.
  • And he brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock; he hath established my goings:
  • He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
    out of the miry bog,
    and set my feet upon a rock,
    making my steps secure.
  • And he hath put a new song in my mouth, praise unto our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall confide in Jehovah.
  • He put a new song in my mouth,
    a song of praise to our God.
    Many will see and fear,
    and put their trust in the Lord.
  • Blessed is the man that hath made Jehovah his confidence, and turneth not to the proud, and to such as turn aside to lies.
  • Blessed is the man who makes
    the Lord his trust,
    who does not turn to the proud,
    to those who go astray after a lie!
  • Thou, O Jehovah my God, hast multiplied thy marvellous works, and thy thoughts toward us: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee; would I declare and speak [them], they are more than can be numbered.
  • You have multiplied, O Lord my God,
    your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
    none can compare with you!
    I will proclaim and tell of them,
    yet they are more than can be told.
  • Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire: ears hast thou prepared me. Burnt-offering and sin-offering hast thou not demanded;
  • In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
    but you have given me an open ear.a
    Burnt offering and sin offering
    you have not required.
  • Then said I, Behold, I come, in the volume of the book it is written of me --
  • Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
    in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
  • To do thy good pleasure, my God, is my delight, and thy law is within my heart.
  • I delight to do your will, O my God;
    your law is within my heart.”
  • I have published righteousness in the great congregation: behold, I have not withheld my lips, Jehovah, *thou* knowest.
  • I have told the glad news of deliveranceb
    in the great congregation;
    behold, I have not restrained my lips,
    as you know, O Lord.
  • I have not hidden thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy loving-kindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
  • I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
    I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
    I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
    from the great congregation.
  • Withhold not thou, Jehovah, thy tender mercies from me; let thy loving-kindness and thy truth continually preserve me.
  • As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
    your mercy from me;
    your steadfast love and your faithfulness will
    ever preserve me!
  • For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head: and my heart hath failed me.
  • For evils have encompassed me
    beyond number;
    my iniquities have overtaken me,
    and I cannot see;
    they are more than the hairs of my head;
    my heart fails me.
  • Be pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me; Jehovah, make haste to my help.
  • Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me!
    O Lord, make haste to help me!
  • Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be turned backward and confounded that take pleasure in mine adversity;
  • Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether
    who seek to snatch away my life;
    let those be turned back and brought to dishonor
    who delight in my hurt!
  • Let them be desolate, because of their shame, that say unto me, Aha! Aha!
  • Let those be appalled because of their shame
    who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”
  • Let all those that seek thee be glad and rejoice in thee; let such as love thy salvation say continually, Jehovah be magnified!
  • But may all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you;
    may those who love your salvation
    say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
  • But I am afflicted and needy: the Lord thinketh upon me. Thou art my help and my deliverer: my God, make no delay.
  • As for me, I am poor and needy,
    but the Lord takes thought for me.
    You are my help and my deliverer;
    do not delay, O my God!
