Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Слухайте це, всі наро́ди, візьміть до ушей, усі ме́шканці все́світу,
God is known in her palaces as a high fortress.
і лю́дські сини й сини му́жів, ра́зом багатий та вбогий,
For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together;
— мої уста казатимуть мудрість, думка ж се́рця мого — розумність,
They saw, -- so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation:
нахилю́ своє ухо до при́казки, розв'яжу́ свою за́гадку лі́рою!
Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail.
Чому маю боятись у день лихолі́ття, як стане круг мене неправда моїх ошука́нців,
With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish.
які на бага́тство своє покладають надію, і своїми доста́тками хва́ляться?
As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. Selah.
Але жодна люди́на не ви́купить брата, не дасть його ви́купу Богові, —
We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple.
бо ви́куп їхніх душ дорогий, і не перестане навіки, —
According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
щоб міг він ще жити навіки й не бачити гро́бу!
Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
Та люди побачать, що мудрі вмирають так само, як гинуть невіглас та не́ук, і лиша́ють для інших багатство своє.
Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof;
Вони ду́мають, ніби доми́ їхні навіки, місця́ їхнього заме́шкання — з роду до роду, імена́ми своїми звуть землі,
Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following.
та не зостається в пошані люди́на, — подібна худобі, що гине!
