{To the chief Musician. On stringed instruments: an instruction. Of David.} Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.

Для дириґента хору. На „Німа голубка вдалечині“. Золотий Давидів псалом, коли филисти́мляни захопи́ли були його в Ґа́ті.
Attend unto me, and answer me: I wander about in my plaint, and I moan aloud,
Помилуй мене, Боже, бо то́пче мене чоловік, — цілий день він воює та ти́сне мене!
Because of the voice of the enemy; because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in anger they persecute me.
Чату́ють мої вороги цілий день, бо багато таких, що воюють завзя́то на мене!
My heart is writhing within me, and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
Того дня, коли страх обгорта́є мене, я надію на Тебе кладу́, —
Fear and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.
я в Бозі хвали́тиму слово Його, на Бога надію кладу, й не боюся, — що тіло учи́нить мені?
And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away, and be at rest;
Цілий день біль прино́сять слова́ мої, усі їхні думки́ проти мене на зло:
Behold, I would flee afar off, I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah;
слідкують, ховаються, пильнують вони мої сто́пи... Як чатують на душу мою,
I would hasten my escape from the stormy wind, from the tempest.
так Ти через гріх віджени́ їх, пониж, Боже, людей в Своїм гніві!
Swallow [them] up, Lord; divide their tongue: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.
Полічив Ти тиня́ння моє, помісти́ ж мої сльози перед Собою, чи ж вони не запи́сані в книзі Твоїй?
Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof; and iniquity and mischief are in the midst of it.
Тоді то мої вороги́ повтікають назад, того дня, як я кли́кати буду. Те я знаю, що Бог при мені,
Perversities are in the midst thereof; and oppression and deceit depart not from its streets.
і в Бозі я справу свою докінчу́, докінчу́ я в Господі справу!
For it is not an enemy that hath reproached me -- then could I have borne it; neither is it he that hateth me that hath magnified [himself] against me -- then would I have hidden myself from him;
На Бога надію кладу́ й не боюсь, — що́ люди́на учи́нить мені?
But it was thou, a man mine equal, mine intimate, my familiar friend. ...
На мені зостаються, о Боже, прися́ги Тобі, та для Тебе я ви́повню жертви хвали́.
