Darby Bible Translation

English Standard Version

  • Deliver Me From My Enemies, My God

    {To the chief Musician. 'Destroy not.' Of David. Michtam; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.} Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God; secure me on high from them that rise up against me.
  • Deliver Me from My Enemies

    To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktama of David, when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him.

    Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
    protect me from those who rise up against me;
  • Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from men of blood.
  • deliver me from those who work evil,
    and save me from bloodthirsty men.
  • For behold, they lie in wait for my soul; strong ones are gathered against me: not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah.
  • For behold, they lie in wait for my life;
    fierce men stir up strife against me.
    For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord,
  • They run and prepare themselves without [my] fault: awake to meet me, and behold.
  • for no fault of mine, they run and make ready.
    Awake, come to meet me, and see!
  • Yea, do thou, Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel, arise to visit all the nations: be not gracious to any plotters of iniquity. Selah.
  • You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel.
    Rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
    spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
  • They return in the evening; they howl like a dog, and go round about the city:
  • Each evening they come back,
    howling like dogs
    and prowling about the city.
  • Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: for who [say they] doth hear?
  • There they are, bellowing with their mouths
    with swords in their lips —
    for “Who,” they think,b “will hear us?”
  • But thou, Jehovah, wilt laugh at them; thou wilt have all the nations in derision.
  • But you, O Lord, laugh at them;
    you hold all the nations in derision.
  • Their strength! ... I will take heed to thee; for God is my high fortress.
  • O my Strength, I will watch for you,
    for you, O God, are my fortress.
  • God, whose loving-kindness will come to meet me, -- God shall let me see [my desire] upon mine enemies.
  • My God in his steadfast lovec will meet me;
    God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
  • Slay them not, lest my people forget; by thy power make them wander, and bring them down, O Lord, our shield.
  • Kill them not, lest my people forget;
    make them totterd by your power and bring them down,
    O Lord, our shield!
  • [Because of] the sin of their mouth, the word of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride; and because of cursing and lying which they speak.
  • For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,
    let them be trapped in their pride.
    For the cursing and lies that they utter,
  • Make an end in wrath, make an end, that they may be no more; that they may know that God ruleth in Jacob, unto the ends of the earth. Selah.
  • consume them in wrath;
    consume them till they are no more,
    that they may know that God rules over Jacob
    to the ends of the earth. Selah
  • And in the evening they shall return, they shall howl like a dog, and go round about the city.
  • Each evening they come back,
    howling like dogs
    and prowling about the city.
  • They shall wander about for meat, and stay all night if they be not satisfied.
  • They wander about for food
    and growl if they do not get their fill.
  • But as for me, I will sing of thy strength; yea, I will sing aloud of thy loving-kindness in the morning; for thou hast been to me a high fortress, and a refuge in the day of my trouble.
  • But I will sing of your strength;
    I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
    For you have been to me a fortress
    and a refuge in the day of my distress.
  • Unto thee, my strength, will I sing psalms; for God is my high fortress, the God of my mercy.
  • O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
    for you, O God, are my fortress,
    the God who shows me steadfast love.
