Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • Thirsting for God

    {A Psalm of David; when he was in the wilderness of Judah.} O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee. My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh languisheth for thee, in a dry and weary land without water:
  • A psalm of David, regarding a time when David was in the wilderness of Judah.

    O God, you are my God;
    I earnestly search for you.
    My soul thirsts for you;
    my whole body longs for you
    in this parched and weary land
    where there is no water.
  • To see thy power and thy glory, as I have beheld thee in the sanctuary;
  • I have seen you in your sanctuary
    and gazed upon your power and glory.
  • For thy loving-kindness is better than life: my lips shall praise thee.
  • Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
    how I praise you!
  • So will I bless thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in thy name.
  • I will praise you as long as I live,
    lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
  • My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise [thee] with joyful lips.
  • You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
    I will praise you with songs of joy.
  • When I remember thee upon my bed, I meditate on thee in the night-watches:
  • I lie awake thinking of you,
    meditating on you through the night.
  • For thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings will I sing for joy.
  • Because you are my helper,
    I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
  • My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
  • I cling to you;
    your strong right hand holds me securely.
  • But those that seek my soul, to destroy [it], shall go into the lower parts of the earth;
  • But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin.
    They will go down into the depths of the earth.
  • They shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be the portion of foxes.
  • They will die by the sword
    and become the food of jackals.
  • But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: for the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
  • But the king will rejoice in God.
    All who swear to tell the truth will praise him,
    while liars will be silenced.
