  • Let God's Enemies Be Scattered!

    {To the chief Musician. Of David. A Psalm: a Song.} Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered, and let them that hate him flee before him.
  • For the choir director: A song. A psalm of David.

    Rise up, O God, and scatter your enemies.
    Let those who hate God run for their lives.
  • As smoke is driven, thou wilt drive them away; as wax melteth before the fire, the wicked shall perish at the presence of God.
  • Blow them away like smoke.
    Melt them like wax in a fire.
    Let the wicked perish in the presence of God.
  • But the righteous shall rejoice: they shall exult before God and be glad with joy.
  • But let the godly rejoice.
    Let them be glad in God’s presence.
    Let them be filled with joy.
  • Sing unto God, sing forth his name; cast up a way for him that rideth in the deserts: his name is Jah; and rejoice before him.
  • Sing praises to God and to his name!
    Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds.a
    His name is the LORD —
    rejoice in his presence!
  • A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.
  • Father to the fatherless, defender of widows —
    this is God, whose dwelling is holy.
  • God maketh the solitary into families; those that were bound he bringeth out into prosperity: but the rebellious dwell in a parched [land].
  • God places the lonely in families;
    he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.
    But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
  • O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness -- (Selah) --
  • O God, when you led your people out from Egypt,
    when you marched through the dry wasteland,

  • The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God, yon Sinai, at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
  • the earth trembled, and the heavens poured down rain
    before you, the God of Sinai,
    before God, the God of Israel.
  • Thou, O God, didst pour a plentiful rain upon thine inheritance, and when it was weary thou strengthenedst it.
  • You sent abundant rain, O God,
    to refresh the weary land.
  • Thy flock hath dwelt therein: thou hast prepared in thy goodness, for the afflicted, O God!
  • There your people finally settled,
    and with a bountiful harvest, O God,
    you provided for your needy people.
  • The Lord gives the word: great the host of the publishers.
  • The Lord gives the word,
    and a great armyb brings the good news.
  • Kings of armies flee; they flee, and she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil.
  • Enemy kings and their armies flee,
    while the women of Israel divide the plunder.
  • Though ye have lain among the sheepfolds, [ye shall be as] wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with green gold.
  • Even those who lived among the sheepfolds found treasures —
    doves with wings of silver
    and feathers of gold.
  • When the Almighty scattered kings in it, it became snow-white as Zalmon.
  • The Almighty scattered the enemy kings
    like a blowing snowstorm on Mount Zalmon.
  • [As] mount Bashan is the mount of God, a many-peaked mountain, [as] mount Bashan.
  • The mountains of Bashan are majestic,
    with many peaks stretching high into the sky.
  • Why do ye look with envy, ye many-peaked mountains, upon the mount that God hath desired for his abode? yea, Jehovah will dwell [there] for ever.
  • Why do you look with envy, O rugged mountains,
    at Mount Zion, where God has chosen to live,
    where the LORD himself will live forever?
  • The chariots of God are twenty thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them: it is a Sinai in holiness.
  • Surrounded by unnumbered thousands of chariots,
    the Lord came from Mount Sinai into his sanctuary.
  • Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts in Man, and even [for] the rebellious, for the dwelling [there] of Jah Elohim.
  • When you ascended to the heights,
    you led a crowd of captives.
    You received gifts from the people,
    even from those who rebelled against you.
    Now the LORD God will live among us there.
  • Blessed be the Lord: day by day doth he load us [with good], the God who is our salvation. Selah.
  • Praise the Lord; praise God our savior!
    For each day he carries us in his arms.

  • Our God is the God of salvation; and with Jehovah, the Lord, are the goings forth [even] from death.
  • Our God is a God who saves!
    The Sovereign LORD rescues us from death.
  • Verily God will smite the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of him that goeth on still in his trespasses.
  • But God will smash the heads of his enemies,
    crushing the skulls of those who love their guilty ways.
  • The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring [them] again from the depth of the sea;
  • The Lord says, “I will bring my enemies down from Bashan;
    I will bring them up from the depths of the sea.
  • That thou mayest dip thy foot in blood: the tongue of thy dogs has its portion from enemies.
  • You, my people, will washc your feet in their blood,
    and even your dogs will get their share!”
  • They have seen thy goings, O God, the goings of my God, my King, in the sanctuary.
  • Your procession has come into view, O God —
    the procession of my God and King as he goes into the sanctuary.
  • The singers went before, the players on stringed instruments after, in the midst of maidens playing on tabrets.
  • Singers are in front, musicians behind;
    between them are young women playing tambourines.
  • In the congregations bless ye God, the Lord, -- [ye] from the fountain of Israel.
  • Praise God, all you people of Israel;
    praise the LORD, the source of Israel’s life.
  • There is little Benjamin, their ruler; the princes of Judah, their company; the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
  • Look, the little tribe of Benjamin leads the way.
    Then comes a great throng of rulers from Judah
    and all the rulers of Zebulun and Naphtali.
  • Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us.
  • Summon your might, O God.d
    Display your power, O God, as you have in the past.
  • Because of thy temple at Jerusalem shall kings bring presents unto thee.
  • The kings of the earth are bringing tribute
    to your Temple in Jerusalem.
  • Rebuke the beast of the reeds, the assembly of the strong, with the calves of the peoples: [every one] submitteth himself with pieces of silver. Scatter the peoples that delight in war.
  • Rebuke these enemy nations —
    these wild animals lurking in the reeds,
    this herd of bulls among the weaker calves.
    Make them bring bars of silver in humble tribute.
    Scatter the nations that delight in war.
  • Great ones shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall quickly stretch out her hands unto God.
  • Let Egypt come with gifts of precious metalse;
    let Ethiopiaf bring tribute to God.
  • Ye kingdoms of the earth, sing unto God; sing psalms of the Lord, (Selah,)
  • Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth.
    Sing praises to the Lord.
    Interlude
  • Of him that rideth upon the heavens, the heavens which are of old: lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice.
  • Sing to the one who rides across the ancient heavens,
    his mighty voice thundering from the sky.
  • Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the clouds.
  • Tell everyone about God’s power.
    His majesty shines down on Israel;
    his strength is mighty in the heavens.
  • Terrible art thou, O God, out of thy sanctuaries, -- the God of Israel! He it is that giveth strength and might unto the people. Blessed be God!
  • God is awesome in his sanctuary.
    The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.
    Praise be to God!
