Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • I Take Refuge in You

    {Shiggaion of David, which he sang to Jehovah, concerning the words of Cush the Benjaminite.} Jehovah my God, in thee have I trusted: save me from all my pursuers, and deliver me;
  • A psalma of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush of the tribe of Benjamin.

    I come to you for protection, O LORD my God.
    Save me from my persecutors — rescue me!
  • Lest he tear my soul like a lion, crushing it while there is no deliverer.
  • If you don’t, they will maul me like a lion,
    tearing me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
  • Jehovah my God, if I have done this, if there be iniquity in my hands;
  • O LORD my God, if I have done wrong
    or am guilty of injustice,
  • If I have rewarded evil to him that was at peace with me; (indeed I have freed him that without cause oppressed me;)
  • if I have betrayed a friend
    or plundered my enemy without cause,
  • Let the enemy pursue after my soul, and take [it], and let him tread down my life to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.
  • then let my enemies capture me.
    Let them trample me into the ground
    and drag my honor in the dust.
    Interlude
  • Arise, Jehovah, in thine anger; lift thyself up against the raging of mine oppressors, and awake for me: thou hast commanded judgment.
  • Arise, O LORD, in anger!
    Stand up against the fury of my enemies!
    Wake up, my God, and bring justice!
  • And the assembly of the peoples shall encompass thee; and for their sakes return thou on high.
  • Gather the nations before you.
    Rule over them from on high.
  • Jehovah shall minister judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity which is in me.
  • The LORD judges the nations.
    Declare me righteous, O LORD,
    for I am innocent, O Most High!
  • Oh let the wrong of the wicked come to an end, and establish thou the righteous [man]; even thou that triest the hearts and reins, the righteous God.
  • End the evil of those who are wicked,
    and defend the righteous.
    For you look deep within the mind and heart,
    O righteous God.
  • My shield is with God, who saveth the upright in heart.
  • God is my shield,
    saving those whose hearts are true and right.
  • God is a righteous judge, and a God who is indignant all the day.
  • God is an honest judge.
    He is angry with the wicked every day.
  • If one turn not, he will sharpen his sword; he hath bent his bow and made it ready,
  • If a person does not repent,
    Godb will sharpen his sword;
    he will bend and string his bow.
  • And he hath prepared for him instruments of death; his arrows hath he made burning.
  • He will prepare his deadly weapons
    and shoot his flaming arrows.
  • Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood:
  • The wicked conceive evil;
    they are pregnant with trouble
    and give birth to lies.
  • He digged a pit, and hollowed it out, and is fallen into the hole that he made.
  • They dig a deep pit to trap others,
    then fall into it themselves.
  • His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violence shall come down upon his own pate.
  • The trouble they make for others backfires on them.
    The violence they plan falls on their own heads.
  • I will praise Jehovah according to his righteousness, and will sing forth the name of Jehovah the Most High.
  • I will thank the LORD because he is just;
    I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
