New Living Translation

  • Give the King Your Justice

    {For Solomon.} O God, give the king thy judgments, and thy righteousness unto the king's son.
  • A psalm of Solomon.

    Give your love of justice to the king, O God,
    and righteousness to the king’s son.
  • He will judge thy people with righteousness, and thine afflicted with judgment.
  • Help him judge your people in the right way;
    let the poor always be treated fairly.
  • The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the hills, by righteousness.
  • May the mountains yield prosperity for all,
    and may the hills be fruitful.
  • He will do justice to the afflicted of the people; he will save the children of the needy, and will break in pieces the oppressor.
  • Help him to defend the poor,
    to rescue the children of the needy,
    and to crush their oppressors.
  • They shall fear thee as long as sun and moon endure, from generation to generation.
  • May they fear youa as long as the sun shines,
    as long as the moon remains in the sky.
    Yes, forever!
  • He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, as showers that water the earth.
  • May the king’s rule be refreshing like spring rain on freshly cut grass,
    like the showers that water the earth.
  • In his days shall the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon be no more.
  • May all the godly flourish during his reign.
    May there be abundant prosperity until the moon is no more.
  • And he shall have dominion from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
  • May he reign from sea to sea,
    and from the Euphrates Riverb to the ends of the earth.
  • The dwellers in the desert shall bow before him, and his enemies shall lick the dust.
  • Desert nomads will bow before him;
    his enemies will fall before him in the dust.
  • The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall render presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer tribute:
  • The western kings of Tarshish and other distant lands
    will bring him tribute.
    The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba
    will bring him gifts.
  • Yea, all kings shall bow down before him; all nations shall serve him.
  • All kings will bow before him,
    and all nations will serve him.
  • For he will deliver the needy who crieth, and the afflicted, who hath no helper;
  • He will rescue the poor when they cry to him;
    he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them.
  • He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and will save the souls of the needy:
  • He feels pity for the weak and the needy,
    and he will rescue them.
  • He will redeem their souls from oppression and violence, and precious shall their blood be in his sight.
  • He will redeem them from oppression and violence,
    for their lives are precious to him.
  • And he shall live; and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall be made for him continually: all the day shall he be blessed.
  • Long live the king!
    May the gold of Sheba be given to him.
    May the people always pray for him
    and bless him all day long.
  • There shall be abundance of corn in the earth, upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon; and they of the city shall bloom like the herb of the earth.
  • May there be abundant grain throughout the land,
    flourishing even on the hilltops.
    May the fruit trees flourish like the trees of Lebanon,
    and may the people thrive like grass in a field.
  • His name shall endure for ever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and [men] shall bless themselves in him; all nations shall call him blessed.
  • May the king’s name endure forever;
    may it continue as long as the sun shines.
    May all nations be blessed through him
    and bring him praise.
  • Blessed be Jehovah Elohim, the God of Israel, who alone doeth wondrous things!
  • Praise the LORD God, the God of Israel,
    who alone does such wonderful things.
  • And blessed be his glorious name for ever! and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen.
  • Praise his glorious name forever!
    Let the whole earth be filled with his glory.
    Amen and amen!
