Повчання Асафа. Боже, чому Ти остаточно відкинув нас? Чому Твій гнів запалав на овець Твоєї отари?
But as for me, my feet were almost gone, my steps had well nigh slipped;
Згадай Свою громаду, яку Ти придбав віддавна. Ти викупив жезл Своєї спадщини: це — гора Сіон, на якій Ти оселився.
For I was envious at the arrogant, seeing the prosperity of the wicked.
Здійми, нарешті, Свої руки на їхню зухвалість, — за те зло, яке ворог накоїв у Твоїй святині.
For they have no pangs in their death, and their body is well nourished;
На Твоєму святі вихвалялися ті, які Тебе ненавидять; підняли знамена — свої знамена, і не зрозуміли.
They have not the hardships of mankind, neither are they plagued like [other] men:
Начебто дерлися вгору,
Therefore pride encompasseth them as a neck-chain, violence covereth them [as] a garment;

Their eyes stand out from fatness, they exceed the imaginations of their heart:
Спалили вогнем Твою святиню, опоганили до основ оселю Твого Імені.
They mock and speak wickedly of oppression, they speak loftily:
У своєму серці їхні свояки сказали разом: Давайте вигубимо до тла із землі всі Божі свята!
They set their mouth in the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.
Ми більше не бачимо наших знамен; уже немає пророка, і Він нас більше не знатиме.
Therefore his people turn hither, and waters in fulness are wrung out to them.
Доки, Боже, ворог буде знущатися? Доки ворог буде постійно глумитися з Твого Імені?
And they say, How can God know, and is there knowledge in the Most High?
Чому Ти завжди забираєш Свою руку, Свою правицю, з-посеред Твого лона?
Behold, these are the wicked, and they prosper in the world: they heap up riches.
Бог — одвіку наш Цар — звершив спасіння посеред землі!
Truly have I purified my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency:
Силою Своєю Ти встановив границі моря, Ти розтрощив у воді голови зміїв.
For all the day have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.
Ти розчавив голови дракона і дав його на поживу народам Ефіопії.
If I said, I will speak thus, behold, I should be faithless to the generation of thy children.
Ти пробив джерела й потоки, Ти висушив ріки Ітама.
When I thought to be able to know this, it was a grievous task in mine eyes;
Твій день і Твоя ніч. Ти створив світло та сонце.
Until I went into the sanctuaries of God; [then] understood I their end.
Ти встановив усі границі землі. Створив літо й весну.
Truly thou settest them in slippery places, thou castest them down in ruins.
Тож пам’ятай: ворог поглумився з Господа, і безумний народ зневажив Твоє Ім’я.
How are they suddenly made desolate! they pass away, consumed with terrors.
Не віддай звірам душу, яка Тебе прославляє, не забудь назавжди душ Своїх убогих.
As a dream, when one awaketh, wilt thou, Lord, on arising despise their image.
Поглянь на Свій завіт, бо темні закутки землі заповнені оселями беззаконня.
When my heart was in a ferment, and I was pricked in my reins,
Хай упокорений не повернеться засоромленим. Бідний та вбогий величатимуть Твоє Ім’я.
Then I was brutish and knew nothing; I was [as] a beast with thee.
Устань, Боже, здійсни Свій суд. Згадай наклепи на Тебе від безумного, які зводить увесь день.
