Darby Bible Translation

New King James Version

  • How Long, O Lord?

    {A Psalm of Asaph.} O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance: thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.
  • A Dirge and a Prayer for Israel, Destroyed by Enemies

    A Psalm of Asaph.

    O God, the [a]nations have come into Your inheritance;
    Your holy temple they have defiled;
    They have laid Jerusalem [b]in heaps.
  • The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowl of the heavens, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth:
  • The dead bodies of Your servants
    They have given as food for the birds of the heavens,
    The flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.
  • Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury [them].
  • Their blood they have shed like water all around Jerusalem,
    And there was no one to bury them.
  • We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision to them that are round about us.
  • We have become a reproach to our neighbors,
    A scorn and derision to those who are around us.
  • How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou be angry for ever? Shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
  • How long, Lord?
    Will You be angry forever?
    Will Your jealousy burn like fire?
  • Pour out thy fury upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that call not upon thy name:
  • Pour out Your wrath on the [c]nations that do not know You,
    And on the kingdoms that do not call on Your name.
  • For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his habitation.
  • For they have devoured Jacob,
    And laid waste his dwelling place.
  • Remember not against us the iniquities of [our] forefathers; let thy tender mercies speedily come to meet us: for we are brought very low.
  • Oh, do not remember [d]former iniquities against us!
    Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,
    For we have been brought very low.
  • Help us, O God of our salvation, because of the glory of thy name; and deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake.
  • Help us, O God of our salvation,
    For the glory of Your name;
    And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
    For Your name’s sake!
  • Wherefore should the nations say, Where is their God? Let the avenging of the blood of thy servants that is shed be known among the nations in our sight.
  • Why should the [e]nations say,
    “Where is their God?”
    Let there be known among the nations in our sight
    The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.
  • Let the groaning of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thine arm, preserve those that are appointed to die;
  • Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You;
    According to the greatness of Your [f]power
    Preserve those who are appointed to die;
  • And render unto our neighbours, sevenfold into their bosom, their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
  • And return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom
    Their reproach with which they have reproached You, O Lord.
  • And we, thy people and the sheep of thy pasture, will give thanks unto thee for ever; we will shew forth thy praise from generation to generation.
  • So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture,
    Will give You thanks forever;
    We will show forth Your praise to all generations.
