Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • God, Don't Keep Silent

    {A Song; a Psalm of Asaph.} O God, keep not silence; hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God:
  • A song. A psalm of Asaph.

    O God, do not be silent!
    Do not be deaf.
    Do not be quiet, O God.
  • For behold, thine enemies make a tumult; and they that hate thee lift up the head.
  • Don’t you hear the uproar of your enemies?
    Don’t you see that your arrogant enemies are rising up?
  • They take crafty counsel against thy people, and consult against thy hidden ones:
  • They devise crafty schemes against your people;
    they conspire against your precious ones.
  • They say, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, and let the name of Israel be mentioned no more.
  • “Come,” they say, “let us wipe out Israel as a nation.
    We will destroy the very memory of its existence.”
  • For they have consulted together with one heart: they have made an alliance together against thee.
  • Yes, this was their unanimous decision.
    They signed a treaty as allies against you —
  • The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarites;
  • these Edomites and Ishmaelites;
    Moabites and Hagrites;
  • Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia, with the inhabitants of Tyre;
  • Gebalites, Ammonites, and Amalekites;
    and people from Philistia and Tyre.
  • Asshur also is joined with them: they are an arm to the sons of Lot. Selah.
  • Assyria has joined them, too,
    and is allied with the descendants of Lot.
    Interlude
  • Do unto them as to Midian; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the torrent of Kishon:
  • Do to them as you did to the Midianites
    and as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River.
  • Who were destroyed at Endor; they became as dung for the ground.
  • They were destroyed at Endor,
    and their decaying corpses fertilized the soil.
  • Make their nobles as Oreb and as Zeeb; and all their chiefs as Zebah and as Zalmunna.
  • Let their mighty nobles die as Oreb and Zeeb did.
    Let all their princes die like Zebah and Zalmunna,
  • For they have said, Let us take to ourselves God's dwelling-places in possession.
  • for they said, “Let us seize for our own use
    these pasturelands of God!”
  • O my God, make them like a whirling thing, like stubble before the wind.
  • O my God, scatter them like tumbleweed,
    like chaff before the wind!
  • As fire burneth a forest, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire,
  • As a fire burns a forest
    and as a flame sets mountains ablaze,
  • So pursue them with thy tempest, and terrify them with thy whirlwind.
  • chase them with your fierce storm;
    terrify them with your tempest.
  • Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.
  • Utterly disgrace them
    until they submit to your name, O LORD.
  • Let them be put to shame and be dismayed for ever, and let them be confounded and perish:
  • Let them be ashamed and terrified forever.
    Let them die in disgrace.
  • That they may know that thou alone, whose name is Jehovah, art the Most High over all the earth.
  • Then they will learn that you alone are called the LORD,
    that you alone are the Most High,
    supreme over all the earth.
