Darby Bible Translation

New Living Translation

  • The Lord Will Not Forget His People

    O God of vengeances, Jehovah, God of vengeances, shine forth;
  • O LORD, the God of vengeance,
    O God of vengeance, let your glorious justice shine forth!
  • Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth, render the reward to the proud.
  • Arise, O Judge of the earth.
    Give the proud what they deserve.
  • How long shall the wicked, O Jehovah, how long shall the wicked triumph?
  • How long, O LORD?
    How long will the wicked be allowed to gloat?
  • [How long] shall they utter [and] speak insolence -- all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
  • How long will they speak with arrogance?
    How long will these evil people boast?
  • They crush thy people, O Jehovah, and afflict thine inheritance;
  • They crush your people, LORD,
    hurting those you claim as your own.
  • They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless,
  • They kill widows and foreigners
    and murder orphans.
  • And say, Jah will not see, neither will the God of Jacob regard [it].
  • “The LORD isn’t looking,” they say,
    “and besides, the God of Israela doesn’t care.”
  • Understand, ye brutish among the people; and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
  • Think again, you fools!
    When will you finally catch on?
  • He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see?
  • Is he deaf — the one who made your ears?
    Is he blind — the one who formed your eyes?
  • He that instructeth the nations, shall not he correct -- he that teacheth man knowledge?
  • He punishes the nations — won’t he also punish you?
    He knows everything — doesn’t he also know what you are doing?
  • Jehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.
  • The LORD knows people’s thoughts;
    he knows they are worthless!
  • Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jah, and whom thou teachest out of thy law;
  • Joyful are those you discipline, LORD,
    those you teach with your instructions.
  • That thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, until the pit be digged for the wicked.
  • You give them relief from troubled times
    until a pit is dug to capture the wicked.
  • For Jehovah will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance;
  • The LORD will not reject his people;
    he will not abandon his special possession.
  • For judgment shall return unto righteousness, and all the upright in heart shall follow it.
  • Judgment will again be founded on justice,
    and those with virtuous hearts will pursue it.
  • Who will rise up for me against the evil-doers? who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity?
  • Who will protect me from the wicked?
    Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
  • If Jehovah had not been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.
  • Unless the LORD had helped me,
    I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave.
  • When I said, My foot slippeth, thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, held me up.
  • I cried out, “I am slipping!”
    but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me.
  • In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul.
  • When doubts filled my mind,
    your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
  • Shall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law?
  • Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side —
    leaders whose decrees permit injustice?
  • They band together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.
  • They gang up against the righteous
    and condemn the innocent to death.
  • But Jehovah will be my high tower; and my God the rock of my refuge.
  • But the LORD is my fortress;
    my God is the mighty rock where I hide.
  • And he will bring upon them their iniquity, and will cut them off in their own evil: Jehovah our God will cut them off.
  • God will turn the sins of evil people back on them.
    He will destroy them for their sins.
    The LORD our God will destroy them.
