Israel at Mount Sinai
In the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they [into] the wilderness of Sinai:

А третього місяця після виходу Ізраїльських синів з Єгипетської землі, того ж дня вони досягли Синайської пустелі.
they departed from Rephidim, and came [into] the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in the wilderness; and Israel encamped there before the mountain.
Вони вирушили з Рафідіна і прибули до Синайської пустелі; і там, напроти гори, Ізраїль отаборився.
And Moses went up to God, and Jehovah called to him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
Мойсей вийшов на Божу гору, і Бог покликав його з гори, промовляючи: Скажи так домові Якова і сповісти синам Ізраїля:
Ye have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, and [how] I have borne you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.
Самі ви побачили, що Я зробив єгиптянам, а вас підняв, наче на орлиних крилах, і привів вас до Себе!
And now, if ye will hearken to my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then shall ye be my own possession out of all the peoples -- for all the earth is mine --
І тепер, якщо уважно прислухаєтеся [1] до Мого голосу і збережете Мій завіт, то будете для Мене особливим народом з-поміж усіх народів. Адже Моєю є вся земля.
and ye shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak to the children of Israel.
І ви будете в Мене царським священством і святим народом! Ці слова скажеш синам Ізраїля.
And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and laid before the mall these words which Jehovah had commanded him.
Тож Мойсей пішов, покликав старійшин народу і виклав перед ними всі ці слова, які наказав йому Бог.
And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah has spoken will we do! And Moses brought the words of the people back to Jehovah.
У відповідь весь народ одностайно сказав: Усе, що сказав Бог, зробимо і послухаємося! А Мойсей передав слова народу Богові.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Lo, I will come to thee in the cloud's thick darkness, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee also for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to Jehovah.
Господь же сказав Мойсеєві: Ось Я приходжу до тебе в хмарному стовпі, щоб почув народ, як Я розмовляю з тобою, — і тобі повірять навіки. Тоді Мойсей переказав слова народу Господу.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people, and hallow them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their clothes;
А Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Зійди та застережи народ, і очисти їх сьогодні та завтра, і хай вони виперуть свій одяг.
and let them be ready for the third day; for on the third day Jehovah will come down before the eyes of all the people on mount Sinai.
А третього дня хай вони будуть готові, бо третього дня Господь перед усім народом зійде на Синайську гору.
And set bounds round about the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, [not] to go up unto the mountain nor touch the border of it: whatever toucheth the mountain shall certainly be put to death:
Довкола ти відділиш народ границею, кажучи: Пильнуйте, не виходьте на гору і не доторкайтеся будь-де до неї! Кожний, хто доторкнеться до гори, неодмінно помре [2].
not a hand shall touch it, but it shall certainly be stoned, or shot through; whether it be a beast or a man, it shall not live. When the long drawn note of the trumpet soundeth, they shall come up to the mountain.
Не доторкнеться рука до неї, бо неодмінно буде побита камінням [3] або прострілена стрілою, — чи то тварина, чи то людина, — не житиме. Коли голоси, звук труби і хмара відійдуть від гори, тоді вони підіймуться на гору.
And Moses came down from the mountain to the people, and hallowed the people; and they washed their clothes.
Тож Мойсей зійшов з гори до народу і освятив його, і вони випрали свій одяг.
And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near [your] wives.
І він промовив до народу: Будьте готові три дні, не входьте до жінок.
And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of the trumpet exceeding loud; and the whole people that was in the camp trembled.
І сталося третього дня, коли настав світанок, з’явилися голоси і блискавки, і темна хмара над Синайською горою; лунав сильний голос труби. Тож весь народ у таборі перелякався.
And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
Мойсей вивів з табору народ назустріч Богові, і вони стали під горою.
The Lord Visits Sinai
And the whole of mount Sinai smoked, because Jehovah descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace; and the whole mountain shook greatly.

А Синайська гора вся диміла, тому що Бог зійшов на неї у вогні, і дим підносився, наче дим з печі. Тож весь народ дуже перелякався.
And the sound of the trumpet increased and became exceeding loud; Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
Звуки труби ставали дедалі сильнішими. Мойсей говорив, а Бог йому відповідав голосом.
And Jehovah came down on mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain; and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
Господь зійшов на Синайську гору — на вершину гори. І Господь покликав на вершину гори Мойсея, і Мойсей піднявся.
And Jehovah said to Moses, Go down, testify to the people that they break not through to Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish.
І промовив Бог до Мойсея, кажучи: Спустись і настійно вмовляй народ, аби часом вони не наблизилися до Бога, щоб побачити, аби не полягло багато з них.
And the priests also, who come near to Jehovah, shall hallow themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.
А священики, які наближаються до Бога, хай освятяться, щоб часом Господь не відступив від них.
And Moses said to Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou hast testified to us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain, and hallow it.
Та Мойсей відповів Богові: Народ не зможе підійти до Синайської гори, бо Ти заповідав нам, кажучи: Обведи границею гору й освяти її.
And Jehovah said to him, Go, descend, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; but the priests and the people shall not break through to go up to Jehovah, lest he break forth on them.
А Господь сказав йому: Іди, спустися вниз і підіймися — ти й Аарон з тобою. Та священики і народ хай не намагаються піднятися до Бога, щоб Господь не знищив декого з них.
