The Ten Commandments

And God spoke all these words, saying,

1

I am Jehovah thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

2

Я — Господь, твій Бог, Який вивів тебе з Єгипетської землі, з дому рабства.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

3

У тебе не буде інших богів, крім Мене.

4

Thou shalt not make thyself any graven image, or any form of what is in the heavens above, or what is in the earth beneath, or what is in the waters under the earth:

Не робитимеш собі ідола ні будь-якої подоби того, що на небі вгорі, чи на землі внизу, чи у водах під землею.

5

thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and to the fourth [generation] of them that hate me,

Не поклонятимешся їм і не служитимеш їм. Адже Я — Господь, твій Бог, Бог ревнивий, Який відплачує за гріхи батьків дітям до третього й четвертого покоління, — тим, хто ненавидить Мене,

and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

і Котрий чинить милосердя тисячам — тим, хто любить Мене і береже Мої заповіді.

Thou shalt not idly utter the name of Jehovah thy God; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that idly uttereth his name.

Не вживатимеш Ім’я Господа, Бога твого, надаремно. Адже Господь не оправдає того, хто вживає Ім’я Його надаремно.

8

Remember the sabbath day to hallow it.

8

Пам’ятай суботній день, щоб його святити.

9

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;

9

Шість днів працюватимеш і робитимеш усі свої діла,

10

but the seventh day is the sabbath of Jehovah thy God: thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy bondman, nor thy handmaid, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.

а сьомий день — субота — Господу, Богові твоєму. Не робитимеш в цей день жодного діла — ні ти, ні твій син, ні твоя дочка, ні твій раб, ні твоя рабиня, ні твій віл, ні твій осел, ні будь-яка твоя худоба, ні чужинець, який в тебе живе.

For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Адже за шість днів Господь створив небо, землю, море і все, що в них, а сьомого дня Він спочив. Тому Господь поблагословив сьомий день і освятив його.

12

Honour thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be prolonged in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

Шануй свого батька і матір, щоб добре тобі було і щоб ти був довголітнім на добрій землі, яку Господь, твій Бог, дає тобі.

13

Thou shalt not kill.

13

Не чинитимеш перелюбу.

14

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Не крастимеш.

15

Thou shalt not steal.

15

Не вбиватимеш.

16

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

16

Не даватимеш неправдивого свідчення проти свого ближнього.

17

Thou shalt not desire thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not desire thy neighbour's wife, nor his bondman, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour's.

17

Не жадатимеш дружини свого ближнього, не жадатимеш дому свого ближнього, ні його поля, ні його раба, ні його рабині, ні його вола, ні його осла, ні будь-якої його худоби, ні будь чого, що є у твого ближнього.

Moses Comforts the People

And all the people saw the thunderings, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw [it], they trembled, and stood afar off,

І весь народ бачив і чув блискавки, і голос і звук труби, і гору, що диміла. Тож весь народ, переляканий, стояв на далекій відстані.

19

and said to Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.

19

І вони сказали Мойсеєві: Говори до нас ти, — хай не говорить до нас Бог, щоб ми не повмирали.

20

And Moses said to the people, Fear not; for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not.

20

А Мойсей каже їм: Будьте мужніми, адже Бог прийшов до вас, щоб вас випробувати, щоб Його страх був між вами, аби ви не грішили.

21

And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near to the obscurity where God was.

21

Тож народ стояв здалека, а Мойсей увійшов у темряву, де був Бог.

22

Idolatry Forbidden

And Jehovah said to Moses, Thus shalt thou say to the children of Israel: Ye have seen that I have spoken with you from the heavens.

22

І Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Так скажеш домові Якова і сповістиш синам Ізраїля: Ви побачили, що Я з неба промовляв до вас:

23

Ye shall not make beside me gods of silver, and ye shall not make to you gods of gold.

23

Не робитимете собі богів зі срібла і не робитимете собі богів із золота.

24

The Altar of Sacrifice

An altar of earth shalt thou make unto me, and shalt sacrifice on it thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep and thine oxen: in all places where I shall make my name to be remembered, I will come unto thee, and bless thee.

Спорудите Мені жертовник із землі й будете приносити на ньому жертву всепалення і ваші жертви подяки за спасіння, вівці й ваші телята, — на кожному місці, там де лише назву Моє Ім’я. І Я прийду до тебе, і поблагословлю тебе.

25

And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone; for if thou lift up thy sharp tool upon it, thou hast profaned it.

25

Якщо ж робитимеш Мені жертовник з каміння, то не будуватимеш з тесаного, бо ти до нього приклав знаряддя і тим опоганив.

26

Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.

26

Не підійматимешся східцями до Мого жертовника, щоб ти не відкрив свій сором над ним.
