Moses' Staff

And Moses answered and said, But behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice; for they will say, Jehovah has not appeared to thee.

Та Мойсей у відповідь сказав: А якщо не повірять мені й не послухають мого голосу, оскільки скажуть: Бог не з’являвся тобі. Що відповім їм?

And Jehovah said to him, What is that in thy hand? And he said, A staff.

2

А Господь сказав йому: Що це в тебе у руці? Він же сказав: Посох.

3

And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.

Тож Господь сказав: Кинь його на землю! І той кинув його на землю, і він став змієм, і Мойсей втік від нього.

4

And Jehovah said to Moses, Stretch out thy hand and take it by the tail -- and he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand --

Та Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Простягни руку і візьми його за хвіст! Тоді, простягнувши руку, він узяв його за хвіст, і той став посохом у його руці.

5

that they may believe that Jehovah, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

Щоб повірили тобі, що Господь, Бог їхніх батьків — Бог Авраама, Бог Ісаака і Бог Якова — з’являвся тобі.

Moses' Hand

And Jehovah said moreover to him, Put now thy hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom, and took it out, and behold, his hand was leprous, as snow.

А далі Господь сказав йому: Засунь свою руку собі за пазуху! І він засунув руку собі за пазуху, і вийняв свою руку із-за пазухи, і його рука стала мов сніг.

7

And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again, and took it out of his bosom, and behold, it was turned again as his flesh.

А Господь сказав: засунь знову свою руку собі за пазуху. І той вклав руку собі за пазуху, і вийняв її з-за своєї пазухи, — і знову повернувся колір його тіла.

8

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the other sign.

І станеться, якщо не повірять тобі й не послухають вістки першої ознаки, то повірять тобі через вістку останньої ознаки.

9

And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also those two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour [it] on the dry [land]; and the water that thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry [land].

І станеться, якщо не повірять тобі через ці дві ознаки, і не прислухаються до твого голосу, то візьмеш воду з ріки й виллєш на суходіл, — і вода, яку візьмеш з ріки, стане кров’ю на суходолі.

The Appointment of Aaron

And Moses said to Jehovah, Ah Lord! I am not eloquent, neither heretofore nor since thou hast spoken to thy servant, for I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue.

Та Мойсей промовив до Господа: Прошу, Господи, я не здатний на це ні від учора, ні від третього дня, ні відтоді, як Ти почав говорити до Свого слуги! Я — заїка й повільний у мові.

11

And Jehovah said to him, Who gave man a mouth? or who maketh dumb, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? [have] not I, Jehovah?

11

Тоді Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Хто дав уста людині, хто створив глухуватого і глухого, зрячого і сліпого? Хіба не Я, Господь Бог?

12

And now go, and I will be with thy mouth, and will teach thee what thou shalt say.

12

А тепер іди, Я відкрию твої вуста і навчатиму тебе, що маєш говорити.

13

And he said, Ah Lord! send, I pray thee, by the hand [of him whom] thou wilt send.

13

Прошу, Господи, — сказав Мойсей, — признач іншого, здатного на це, якого пошлеш.

14

Then the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also behold, he goeth out to meet thee; and when he seeth thee he will be glad in his heart.

І Господь, запалавши гнівом на Мойсея, сказав: Хіба ось Аарон-левіт — не твій брат? Знаю, що він неодмінно говоритиме [1] сам за тебе. Ось він вийде тобі назустріч і, побачивши тебе, зрадіє в собі.

15

And thou shalt speak unto him, and put the words in his mouth; and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.

15

Ти промовлятимеш до нього і вкладатимеш йому в уста Мої слова. А Я відкриватиму і твої вуста, і його вуста, — і вкажу вам, що робити.

16

And he shall speak for thee unto the people; and it shall come to pass that he shall be to thee for a mouth, and thou shalt be to him for God.

16

Тож він говоритиме за тебе до народу, — він буде твоїми вустами, ти ж будеш для нього в Божих справах.

17

And thou shalt take this staff in thy hand, with which thou shalt do the signs.

17

А цей посох, що обертався на змія, візьми у свою руку, — ним чинитимеш ознаки.

18

Moses Leaves for Egypt

And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return to my brethren who are in Egypt, that I may see whether they are yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

18

І Мойсей пішов. Він повернувся до свого тестя Йотора й сказав: Піду і повернуся до моїх братів, які в Єгипті, — подивлюся, чи ще живуть. А Йотор сказав Мойсеєві: Іди і будь здоровий!

19

And Jehovah said to Moses in Midian, Go, return to Egypt; for all the men are dead who sought thy life.

Після багатьох тих днів помер єгипетський цар. І Господь сказав Мойсеєві в Мадіямській землі: Іди, повернися в Єгипет, бо померли всі, хто шукав твоєї душі!

20

And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them riding upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt. And Moses took the staff of God in his hand.

20

Тож Мойсей узяв дружину і дітей, посадив їх на в’ючних тварин і попрямував назад до Єгипту. А посох, що від Бога, Мойсей узяв у свою руку.

21

And Jehovah said to Moses, When thou goest to return to Egypt, see that thou do all the wonders before Pharaoh that I have put in thy hand. And I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

21

Господь же сказав Мойсеєві: Коли підеш і повернешся в Єгипет, то дивись, щоб усі ознаки, які Я дав тобі в руки, ти вчинив перед фараоном!. Я ж зроблю його серце закам’янілим, і він не відпустить народу.

22

And thou shalt say to Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah: Israel is my son, my firstborn.

22

А ти скажеш фараонові: Так говорить Господь: Ізраїль — Мій первородний син!

23

And I say to thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me. And if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill thy son, thy firstborn.

23

Тож Я сказав тобі: Відпусти Мій народ, щоби приніс Мені жертву! Однак, якщо ти не захочеш відпустити їх, то дивись, Я вб’ю твого первородного сина!

24

And it came to pass on the way, in the inn, that Jehovah came upon him, and sought to slay him.

24

І сталося, що по дорозі, під час стоянки, його зустрів Господній ангел і намагався вбити його.

25

Then Zipporah took a stone and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, A bloody husband indeed art thou to me!

25

А Сепфора, взявши кремінь, обрізала крайню плоть свого сина, припала до його ніг і сказала: Зупинила кров обрізання моєї дитини!

26

And he let him go. Then she said, A bloody husband -- because of the circumcision.

26

І він відійшов від нього, бо вона сказала: Зупинила кров обрізання моєї дитини.

The People Believe Moses and Aaron

And Jehovah said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him.

27

І сказав Господь Ааронові: Піди назустріч Мойсеєві в пустелю. І той пішов. Він зустрів його на Божій горі, і вони поцілували один одного.

28

And Moses told Aaron all the words of Jehovah who had sent him, and all the signs that he had commanded him.

28

Мойсей переказав Ааронові всі слова Господа, які Він послав, і всі ознаки, котрі йому заповів.

29

And Moses and Aaron went and gathered all the elders of the children of Israel;

29

Тож Мойсей та Аарон пішли та зібрали раду старійшин із синів Ізраїля.

30

and Aaron spoke all the words that Jehovah had spoken to Moses, and did the signs before the eyes of the people.

30

І Аарон переказав усі ті слова, які сказав Бог Мойсеєві, і вчинив ознаки перед народом.

31

And the people believed. And when they heard that Jehovah had visited the children of Israel, and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

31

І народ повірив, і зрадів, оскільки Бог відвідав Ізраїльських синів і побачив їхній біль. І, схилившись, народ поклонився.
