A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

Син мудрий приймає карта́ння від батька, а насмішник доко́ру не слухає.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
З плоду уст чоловік споживає добро́, а жадо́ба зрадливих — наси́льство.
He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
Хто уста свої стереже́, той душу свою береже́, а хто гу́би свої розпуска́є, — на того поги́біль.
A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Пожадає душа лінюха́, та даре́мно, душа ж роботя́щих наси́титься.
A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.
Нена́видить праведний слово брехливе, безбожний же чинить лихе, і себе засоро́млює.
Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Праведність оберігає невинного на дорозі його, а безбожність погу́блює грішника.
There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
Дехто вдає багача́, хоч нічо́го не має, а дехто вдає бідака́, хоч маєток великий у нього.
The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.
Викуп за душу люди́ни — багатство її, а вбогий й доко́ру не чує.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Світло праведних ве́село світить, а світильник безбожних пога́сне.
By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
Тільки сварка пихо́ю зчиня́ється, а мудрість із тими, хто ра́диться.
Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].
Багатство, заско́ро здобуте, — поме́ншується, хто ж збирає пома́лу — примно́жує.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.
Задовга надія — неду́га для серця, а бажа́ння, що спо́внюється, — це дерево життя.
Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Хто пого́рджує словом Господнім, той шкодить собі, хто ж страх має до заповіді, тому надолу́житься.
The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
Наука премудрого — крини́ця життя, щоб віддали́тися від пасток сме́рти.
Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.
Добрий розум прино́сить приємність, а дорога зрадли́вих — погу́ба для них.
Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.
Кожен розумний за мудрістю робить, а безу́мний глупо́ту показує.
A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
Безбожний посо́л у нещастя впаде́, а вірний посол — немов лік.
Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
Хто ламає поу́ку — убозтво та га́ньба тому́, а хто береже осторо́гу — шанований він.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.
Ви́конане побажа́ння приємне душі, а вступи́тись від зла — то оги́да безумним.
He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.
Хто з мудрими ходить, той мудрим стає, а хто товаришу́є з безу́мним, той лиха набу́де.
Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
Грішників зло доганя́є, а праведним Бог надолу́жить добром.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].
Добрий лишає спа́док і ону́кам, маєток же грішника схо́ваний буде для праведного.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.
Убогому буде багато поживи і з поля невпра́вного, та деякі гинуть з безпра́в'я.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
Хто стримує різку свою, той нена́видить сина свого, хто ж кохає його, той шукає для ньо́го карта́ння.
