Коли чоловіка картають, а він все таки тугошийий, то й буде розбитий, й не буде йому лїку.
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Як много праведних, — люде веселяться; як запанують же ледачі, тодї народ стогне.
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth [his] substance.
Хто любить мудрість, той отцеві втїха, хто ж з блудницями живе, той майно марнує.
A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
Правосуд царя скріпляє країну, хто ж бажає подарунків, — пустошить її.
A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
Хто леститься другу свому, стелить сїтї під ноги йому.
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
В грісї в ледачого — сїть про його, а праведний — все веселий і радуєсь.
The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
Праведний щиро вникає у справу бідних, безбожний не розбірає справи.
Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
Люде розворотні ворохоблять місто, мудрі ж неспокій втихомиряють.
If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, [he] hath no rest.
Як мудрий із дурним заведе рахубу, то, чи гнїваєсь, чи сьміється, — не має спокою.
The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
Безвинного не люблять душогубцї, а праведні журяться про життє його.
A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.
Дурний усю свою досаду виливає, а мудрий здержує її.
If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
Як любо панові слухати неправди, то й всї слуги в його ледачі.
The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
І бідні й деруни помішані з собою, та обох їх очам дає Господь сьвітло.
A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
Коли вбогих царь по правдї судить, то престол його на все утвердиться.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
Лоза й огроза — вони дають мудрість; та син, лишений на волю, соромить матїр.
When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
Як множаться безбожні люде, множиться й беззаконність, та праведні побачять їх погибель.
Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
Карай твого сина, а дасть спокій тобі, й принесе радість серцю твойму.
Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
Як нїкому, (Божу) обявляти правду, ійде народ в розтеч; щаслив лиш той, хто додержує закону.
A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
Словами годї раба навчити; хоч він їх і чує, та що ж не слухає.
Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Чи бачив ти чоловіка, прудкого до мови? — на дурного більш надїї анїж на його.
He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
Коли слуга з малку в розкошах зростає, схоче він опісля зробитись сином.
An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Чоловік гнївливий розводить сварку, та й палкий не трохи грішить.
A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
Гординя веде чоловіка в погорду, а покірний духом наживає честї.
Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
Хто з злодїєм дїливсь, ненавидить свою душу; він чує закляттє*, та не виявляє.
The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
Хто боїться людей, той в біду попаде; хто ж боїться Господа, буде безпечен.
Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
Многі шукають ласки в володарів (земних), та долею людською — володїє Господь.
