Чоловік остере́жуваний, та твердошиїй, буде зламаний нагло, і ліку не буде йому.
When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Коли мно́жаться праведні, радіє наро́д, як панує ж безбожний — то сто́гне наро́д.
Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; but he that is a companion of harlots destroyeth [his] substance.
Люди́на, що мудрість кохає, поті́шує батька свого, а хто попасає блудни́ць, той губить маєток.
A king by just judgment establisheth the land; but he that taketh gifts overthroweth it.
Цар утримує край правосу́ддям, а люди́на хаба́рна руйнує його.
A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
Люди́на, що другові своєму підле́щує, на сто́пах його па́стку ставить.
In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
У провині люди́ни лихої знахо́диться па́стка, а справедливий радіє та ті́шиться.
The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; the wicked understandeth not knowledge.
Праведний знає про право вбогих, безбожний же не розуміє пізна́ння про це.
Scornful men set the city in a flame; but the wise turn away anger.
Люди глузли́ві підбу́рюють місто, а мудрі утишують гнів.
If a wise man contendeth with a fool, whether he rage or laugh, [he] hath no rest.
Мудра люди́на, що праву́ється із нерозумним, то чи гні́вається, чи сміється, — споко́ю не знає.
The bloodthirsty hate the perfect, but the upright care for his soul.
Кровоже́рці нена́видять праведного, справедливі ж шукають спасти його душу.
A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise [man] keepeth it back.
Глупа́к увесь свій гнів увиявляє, а мудрий назад його стри́мує.
If a ruler hearken to lying words, all his servants are wicked.
Володар, що слухає сло́ва брехливого, — безбожні всі слу́ги його!
The indigent and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.
Убогий й гноби́тель стрічаються, — їм обом Господь очі освітлює.
A king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
Як цар правдою судить убогих, стоя́тиме трон його за́вжди.
The rod and reproof give wisdom; but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
Різка й поу́ка премудрість дають, а дити́на, зали́шена тільки собі, засоро́млює матір свою.
When the wicked increase, transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall see their fall.
Як мно́жаться несправедливі — провина розмно́жується, але праведні бачитимуть їхній упа́док.
Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest, and shall give delight unto thy soul.
Карай сина свого — й він тебе заспоко́їть, і приє́мнощі дасть для твоєї душі.
Where there is no vision the people cast off restraint; but happy is he that keepeth the law.
Без пророчих виді́нь люд розбе́щений, коли ж стереже він Зако́на — блаженний.
A servant is not corrected by words: he understandeth indeed, but he will not answer.
Раб словами не буде пока́раний, — хоч він розуміє, але́ не послу́хає.
Hast thou seen a man hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Чи бачив люди́ну, квапли́ву в словах своїх? — Більша надія глупце́ві, ніж їй!
He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child, shall in the end have him as a son.
Хто розпе́щує зма́лку свого раба, то кінець його буде невдячний.
An angry man exciteth contention; and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
Гнівли́ва люди́на викли́кує сварку, а лютий вчиняє багато провин.
A man's pride bringeth him low; but the humble in spirit shall obtain honour.
Горди́ня люди́ни її понижає, а чести набуває покірливий духом.
Whoso shareth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration, and declareth not.
Хто ді́литься з зло́дієм, той нена́видить душу свою, — він чує прокля́ття, та не виявляє.
The fear of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his confidence in Jehovah is protected.
Страх перед люди́ною па́стку дає, хто ж наді́ю складає на Господа, буде безпечний.
Many seek the ruler's face; but a man's right judgment is from Jehovah.
Багато шукають для себе обличчя володаря, та від Господа суд для люди́ни.
