Darby Bible Translation

English Standard Version

  • God's Judgments on the Nations

    Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye peoples: let the earth hear, and all its fulness; the world, and all that cometh forth of it.
  • Judgment on the Nations

    Draw near, O nations, to hear,
    and give attention, O peoples!
    Let the earth hear, and all that fills it;
    the world, and all that comes from it.
  • For the wrath of Jehovah is against all the nations, and [his] fury against all their armies: he hath devoted them to destruction, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.
  • For the Lord is enraged against all the nations,
    and furious against all their host;
    he has devoted them to destruction,a has given them over for slaughter.
  • And their slain shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up from their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.
  • Their slain shall be cast out,
    and the stench of their corpses shall rise;
    the mountains shall flow with their blood.
  • And all the host of the heavens shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fade away, as a leaf fadeth from off the vine, and as the withered [fruit] from the fig-tree.
  • All the host of heaven shall rot away,
    and the skies roll up like a scroll.
    All their host shall fall,
    as leaves fall from the vine,
    like leaves falling from the fig tree.
  • For my sword is bathed in the heavens; behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my ban, to judgment.
  • For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens;
    behold, it descends for judgment upon Edom,
    upon the people I have devoted to destruction.
  • The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Jehovah hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
  • The Lord has a sword; it is sated with blood;
    it is gorged with fat,
    with the blood of lambs and goats,
    with the fat of the kidneys of rams.
    For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
    a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
  • And the buffaloes shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.
  • Wild oxen shall fall with them,
    and young steers with the mighty bulls.
    Their land shall drink its fill of blood,
    and their soil shall be gorged with fat.
  • For it is the day of Jehovah's vengeance, the year of recompenses for the controversy of Zion.
  • For the Lord has a day of vengeance,
    a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
  • And the torrents thereof shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone; yea, the land thereof shall become burning pitch:
  • And the streams of Edomb shall be turned into pitch,
    and her soil into sulfur;
    her land shall become burning pitch.
  • it shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
  • Night and day it shall not be quenched;
    its smoke shall go up forever.
    From generation to generation it shall lie waste;
    none shall pass through it forever and ever.
  • And the pelican and the bittern shall possess it, and the great owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And he shall stretch out upon it the line of waste, and the plummets of emptiness.
  • But the hawk and the porcupinec shall possess it,
    the owl and the raven shall dwell in it.
    He shall stretch the line of confusiond over it,
    and the plumb line of emptiness.
  • Of her nobles who should proclaim the kingdom, none are there; and all her princes shall be nought.
  • Its nobles — there is no one there to call it a kingdom,
    and all its princes shall be nothing.
  • And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in her fortresses; and it shall be a dwelling-place of wild dogs, a court for ostriches.
  • Thorns shall grow over its strongholds,
    nettles and thistles in its fortresses.
    It shall be the haunt of jackals,
    an abode for ostriches.e
  • And there shall the beasts of the desert meet with the jackals, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; the lilith also shall settle there, and find for herself a place of rest.
  • And wild animals shall meet with hyenas;
    the wild goat shall cry to his fellow;
    indeed, there the night birdf settles
    and finds for herself a resting place.
  • There shall the arrow-snake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow; there also shall the vultures be gathered one with another.
  • There the owl nests and lays
    and hatches and gathers her young in her shadow;
    indeed, there the hawks are gathered,
    each one with her mate.
  • Search ye in the book of Jehovah and read: not one of these shall fail, one shall not have to seek for the other; for my mouth, it hath commanded, and his Spirit, it hath gathered them.
  • Seek and read from the book of the Lord:
    Not one of these shall be missing;
    none shall be without her mate.
    For the mouth of the Lord has commanded,
    and his Spirit has gathered them.
  • For he himself hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them with the line: they shall possess it for ever; from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.
  • He has cast the lot for them;
    his hand has portioned it out to them with the line;
    they shall possess it forever;
    from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.
