The Potter and the Clay
The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
Такая весть пришла к Иеремии от Господа:
Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
"Пойди в дом гончара, и Я тебе передам Мою весть в его доме".
And I went down to the potter's house; and behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
И я пошёл в дом гончара и увидел, что он работал на кружале.
And the vessel that he made was marred, as clay, in the hand of the potter; and he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make.
Он делал из глины горшок, который вдруг развалился у него в руках, и тогда гончар снова взял эту глину и сделал из неё другой горшок. Руками он придавал горшку ту форму, которую хотел.
House of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are ye in my hand, house of Israel.
"Семьи Израиля, вы знаете, что Я могу сделать то же самое и с вами: вы — глина в руках гончара, и Я — гончар". Так говорит Господь.
At the moment that I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy,
"Может быть придёт время, когда Я скажу о царстве или о народе, что Я искореню и уничтожу этот народ или это царство.
if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, then I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
Но если этот народ изменит жизнь свою и сердца и перестанет делать зло, то Я изменю Своё решение и не принесу этому народу несчастье.
And at the moment that I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant,
Может быть, придёт иное время, когда Я скажу о каком-нибудь народе, что Я устрою и укреплю этот народ.
if it do evil in my sight, that it hearken not unto my voice, then I will repent of the good wherewith I said I would benefit them.
Но если Я увижу, что народ творит зло, то откажусь от Своего намерения творить добро для этого народа.
And now, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I prepare evil against you, and devise a device against you: turn ye then every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.
Поэтому, Иеремия, скажи народу Иудеи и тем, кто живёт в Иерусалиме, что Я замышляю недоброе против них, поэтому пусть они перестанут делать зло. Каждый человек должен измениться и должен начать творить добро.
But they say, There is no hope; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will each one do [according to] the stubbornness of his evil heart.
Но люди Иудеи ответят: "Из этого ничего не получится, мы будем продолжать делать то, что хотим. Каждый из нас намерен делать то, чего хочет его злое, упрямое сердце"".
Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Ask ye now among the nations, Who hath heard such things? The virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.
Слушайте, что говорит Господь: "Спросите у других народов: "Когда-нибудь вы слышали о чём-нибудь подобном тому, что сотворила Иудея — Господа невеста, которую Он сам избрал?"
Shall the snow of Lebanon cease from the rock of the field? Shall the cool flowing waters coming from afar be dried up?
Камни полей не двигаются сами по себе, в Ливанских горах никогда не тает снег, холодный и быстрый поток никогда не пересыхает. Знаете ли вы об этом?
For my people hath forgotten me: they burn incense to vanity; and they have caused them to stumble in their ways, the ancient paths, to walk in by-paths of a way not cast up;
Но люди Мои забыли обо Мне — ничтожным идолам дары приносят и спотыкаются на старом пути их предков. Мой народ идти предпочитает старой стезёй назад, чем следовать за Мной дорогой доброй.
to make their land an astonishment, a perpetual hissing: every one that passeth by shall be astonished, and shake his head.
Поэтому Иудея станет пустыней. Каждый, кто подумает об этой земле, будет освистывать её. Каждый, кто мимо неё пройдёт, засвистит в изумлении и покачает головой.
As with an east wind will I scatter them before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
Я народ Иудеи рассею — как от врага, они будут бежать, Я их развею, как ветер восточный, который сдувает всё. Я разрушу их и уничтожу. Помощь от Бога им никогда не придёт, — Я повернусь к ним спиною!"
The Plot against Jeremiah
And they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor word from the prophet. Come and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

Тогда сказали враги Иеремии: "Давайте устроим против него заговор: от этого закон у священников не исчезнет и советы мудрых не пропадут — мы сохраним слова наших пророков. Давайте пустим лживый слух о нём и не будем обращать внимания на его речи".
Jehovah, give heed to me, and listen to the voice of those that contend with me.
Услышь меня, Господи, выслушай мои доводы и рассуди, кто прав.
Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.
К народу Иудеи был добр я, но злом за это они мне платят, роют яму для меня. Господи, Ты ли не помнишь всего, что я сделал: я, стоя перед Тобою, просил, чтобы Ты сделал добро этим людям, просил Тебя остановиться в гневе Твоём. Я был добр к ним, но злом они платят мне, замышляя убить меня.
Therefore give up their children to the famine, and deliver them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of children and be widows; and let their men be swept off by death, their young men be smitten by the sword in battle.
Пошли их детям голод, пусть меч врагов настигнет их, да будут их жёны бездетны, да будут мужья их мертвы! Сделай их жён вдовами, и да умрут их мужья, и да полягут в битве все юноши Иудеи!
Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have digged a pit to take me, and have hidden snares for my feet.
Да будет плач в их домах — заставь их плакать, когда врагов приведёшь неожиданно. Да случится всё это, ибо они старались меня поймать и расставляли ловушки, чтобы я в них попал.
And thou, Jehovah, knowest all their counsel against me to slay me. Forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee: deal with them in the time of thine anger.
Господи, все их планы против меня Ты знаешь — не прощай их преступлений, не умаляй их грехов, накажи врагов моих, пока Ты во гневе.
